  12. In my list of WWII counterfactuals these days I'd include: What would middle-aged British men do without it? Would Channel 5 go under?
  13. Couldn't really care less whether or not Hitler was in Liverpool. My observation about Professor Kershaw comes from having been lectured by him and having met him. A miserable uninspiring t***. Big structuralist who specialised in medieval history (and wasn't that good) before turning his hand to the Nazis and "modernity". Part of the "Hitler Studies" boom (DeLillo right as ever) so many men of a certain age seem to love. You seem to be amongst them fyds!
  14. More accurately Cisse is a quintessential Houllier buy. Over-priced prospect who's all physicality, force and not a footballer who plays best on the shoulder of the last defender in a counter-attacking system. Nando has a proven track-record and was reasonably priced, terrific technique, obviously a player and reads the game well as part of a team based around keeping possession. EDIT: This reads as though I'm overjoyed with nando's contribution thus far this season. I'm not. He needs to improve in front of goal and put a sustained run of fitness together to justify keeping him beyond the summer. My point is one is a quintessential Houllier buy, for his faults, the other, for his faults, a quintessential Benitez buy.
  15. Think what constitutes prime has certainly changed. Up front anyway.
  16. Think it's a decent point. Crouch improves our play thirty yards out. Morientes improves it twenty. Two things concern me. Firstly his fitness and secondly his confidence in front of goal. He was reluctant to shoot the other night. We need his nouce up top because he makes things happen with his flicks and intelligence. However Garcia might be a better bet next to Crouch and Fowler a better bet next to Nando. Which brings me to... Because he can't control the ball. He's an instinctive scorer, has pace to burn and would be great in a counter-attacking team. But he simply isn't going to become anything more than an instinctive footballer. Morientes is clearly a class act, just a class act that may not make it playing for us. Cisse has only shown class in one game. He, like Baros, needs an attack built around him and has shown no ability to work in a team system. Nando has.
