  1. if you watched that game, and seriously think this team will ever win a title with rafa at the helm you are seriously delusional...watch, we'll somehow miraculously qualify for the champions league knockout rounds, end up 4th, and go through this whole charade again next year. you can whine about how much he's has to spend all you like, when i see the likes of babel, kyriagkos, voronin, degen, and kuyt on the pitch it becomes pretty obvious he's lost the plot. it's embarrassing to see a performance like this after last week.

    Transfer thread

i'd just rather buy younger players with the potential to improve in that price bracket...at least they retain their value, look at alonso, we bought him relatively young, got 4 great seasons out of him, and might sell him for a profit still. and if they exceed expectations, even better (i.e. torres, mascherano).

come on, lay off aggermania. if someone told you a few months ago that rafa wuold have 40M quid to spend, and only came away with keane and barry, wouldn't you be disappointed? i rate them as quality players, but at ~20M each, i'd be looking for torres/macherano level signings...these two are a notch below, especially at 28 years old each. i'd still love to bring them in, but i hope there's money left over for another attacking midfielder in there somewhere.

    Lucas...

can lucas play on the left, ala stevie g. on the opposite flank? i'm just trying to figure out what the point is of bringing him over here considering gerrard, alonso, mascherano, and sissoko are all ahead of him in the middle of the pitch. and while i'm at it, if lucas is playing on the left, how is leto going to get a game with kewell, babel, riise, and possibly lucas over there as well? and finally, how much wood COULD a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? and conversely, how much wood WOULD a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood, given his lack of first team appearances?
  5. what is your obsession with dave u? he gets it right more ofthen than he gets it wrong...which is more than what can be said of some other posters who claim to be "in the know".

    No pics off me.

somewhat off topic...but i remember someone stating that stadium costs were a lot higher now because the price of steel had gone up. two questions: 1. why did the price go up? 2. how come cars haven't gotten more expensive as well? pardon my ignorance, but i was curious...as it is, i wish they would hurry up and get this thing built.
  7. i don't see what is constructive about telling fellow reds to f*ck off just because they point out the behaviour of some senior posters is a tad immature. of course no one owes us stadium pics, or transfer news...but at the same time, posters should realize that teasing others with claims of inside knowledge is just going to incite trouble. it all seems a bit of an ego trip, if you ask me...which of course, you're not. but seriously, lighten up...when did things get so "cliquey" around here (is that even a word)?
  8. so NYR says it looks like Lucas Oil Field, but Dave U says it looks like nothing of the sort...I know who I would put my money on.
  9. welcome to the year 2007 people...you want your eto's and and alves', well, someone is going to have to pay for them. i don't understand how people fail to comprehend the notion that the same "corporate" fans who pump millions into the club are not going to want some payback in the form on finals tickets. i have to chuckle when i hear people arguing that forking over 600 quid at the start of the season should somehow allow them first priority when it comes to things like these. i know its fashionable to bash the "non-working class" reds, but if they didn't support liverpool through the last 2 decades, where exactly would the club be right now? you might not like it, but that's modern football for you. and i have news for you, its not going to get better with the new owners. over here (toronto), my company paid $20,000 for the RIGHTS to buy a single season ticket for the local NBA franchise. the tickets themselves cost upwards of $5,000 a season, and i'm talking about just regular seats, 30 rows up, not a box, or courtside, etc. we live in a capitalism based society, you're deluding yourselves if you think money doesn't talk in these cases. this is the uefa champions league final...what did you honestly expect? the world isn't fair, never has been, never will be. we can argue for days about if someone who's had season tix for 20 years deserves priority over a 15 year old kid who scrounged up enough cash to get to 6 champions league games, or a lifelong liverpool fan who puts thousands of dollars into the club every year through corporate connections....is the season ticketholder more passionate than the 15 year old? if not, then should it strictly come down to all the money he's paid for his tickets, which then pales in comparison to the corporate type, who in the end might be the least deserving of the bunch! i mean, we're going to go around in circles here...bottom line is, if you think you can afford to get there, you'll be there...sacrifices will be made...and if not, there's always next year! we only got 17,000 tickets...even if we had 45,000 season ticket holders, all of whom had been there for 40+ years and got equal priorty, forgetting fan card holders, shareholders, and corporate types, almost 2/3rds of them wouldn't have gotten a ticket. there's just no simple solution for this, other than the self-serving ones that would put their originators at the front of the queue.
  10. aurellio has a career threatening injury, insua has never played a competitive match over here, and riise - well, i think we can leave that debate to thread in the liverpool forum.
  11. can you quickly summarize the strengths and weaknesses of these two, i'm not as familiar with them as i am the others.
  12. given a choice, which of these 3 LB's would you want patrolling the liverpool backline? bale seems too raw at this point, but i'm wondering if we're underestimating the other two...bridge was one of chelsea's best players his first season there, and barry could be another carrick ( a player everyone claims is s***, but actually ends up looking half decent when surrounded by other players). also, in terms of foreign LB's, who else would you rate? i admit i haven't seen a lot of foreign footy this year, but lahm and abidal impressed at the world cup...anyone else we should keep our eyes on?

    Sebastian Leto

how's barragan doing this season? i don't see why we sold him instead of just loaning him out...by all accounts, he was a real prospect. then again, i thought gregory vignal was going to be our LB for the next decade.
  14. hello, long time no post. anyways, just wanted to share a quick thought. i know we already have the precedent of a team from wales playing the english leagues, but given that wales isn't a real country anyways (haha), you couldn't really use it to justify clubs from other countries leaving their respective leagues for more lucrative ones. now, i assume the mls is sanctioned by fifa. they have just approved the addition of a canadian "franchise" to their previously all-american league. could this open the door at all for celtic or rangers to make the jump to the premiership, or for other big clubs from smaller countries to band together in the name of the almighty dollar / pound / euro?
  15. the player we should be targeting is anelka...he's been here before, done well, wouldn't cost an arm and a leg, and gives us something different in terms of attacking play.
