Rafa as well as the players has to take the blame
Shanklyanfield replied to Shanklyanfield's topic in Liverpool FC
He didn't though as Garcia and Alonso where totally ineffective today, both of them guitly of giving the ball way and both of them travelled for internationals! Fowler was playing better than Garcia and Momo was playing better than Alonso but as much as I hate to say (and I'll probably get slated on here for it) Like GH was with his French players Rafa was the same today with Garcia and Alonso because they are Spanish because that is the only reason I can come up with why they stayed on the pitch! -

No......but those are the exact changers I would have made!!!! I just don't understand how you can say the substitutions made by Rafa today weren't to blame for the resutl! We Where 2-0 down away from home and we went 1 up-front!! If we where winning 2-0 fair enough but not when you are losing! There was a perfect example after Rafa made the changes.... Kuyt had a shot that Howard spilled and Garcia was 10 yards away from the rebound off Howard and the rest of the players where 20 yards away and that's the problem with 1 upfront especially when you are losing! -

Will people please stop brinnging out statements like What would you have done, especially with all your experience of winning things like? because even the best Managers in the game Shankly, Paisley etc.... made f***ing mistakes and so will Rafa. The fact he won the Champions League and the FA Cup for us and he's moved us forward greatly doesn't make him immune from criticism so please stop with the "you've won f'all" comments it is really teadious! And by the way what have you won to say that he doesn't know what he's talking about!!! And if as you've stated the only reason Everton won was because they wanted it more!! Don't you think that's a problem then? -
So it was a good move when you are 2-0 down to bring on a Left-Back for a Striker?????????????

Sorry Lee but the substitutions where one of the biggest problems today! We played 1 up-front when we where losing 2-0 away from home! I really don't know how you can say taking a striker off for a Left Back when you are 2-0 down isn't a prolbem! Yes we should have had 2 penatlies and hit the post but that would have only evened up the game...... but Everton could have also scored more!! Can you honestly hand on heart say you where happy with Rafa for taking a Striker off for a Left Back in a game we where losing 2-0 away from home??? That is the point I'm trying to get at!!!! Oh f*** off! are you telling me that Garcia was better as a striker than Robbie? -

Openings but how many shots on target that Howard actually made a save from? you may as well hit it at the corner flag as not make the keeper make a save! -

Have to admit that was what I thought when we brought on a Left Back for a Striker in game we where LOSING 2-0!!!! -

So has Fowler and Crouch but they are STRIKERS Garcia is not and he was having a shocking game!!!!! So let's put a player up-front who is not a STRIKER and having a stinker hoping he will score an importnant goal even though he's not a striker! -

??????????????????? Please expalin! -
Garcia 6?? Apart from one shot in the first half he was poor - he done nothing but back out of challenges and give the ball away! How he stayed on the pitch as a STRIKER in a game we where 2-0 down ahead of Crouch or Fowler really is beyond me!!!
-
We are losing 2-0 away from home and we end up the game with 30 minutes to go with one f***ing striker on the pitch! We take a striker off for a f***ing left back in a game we must win putting lightweight Garcia up-front!! How Garcia and Alonso finished that game I really don't know as all both of them done today was give the ball away! The players have got to take a lot of the blame as Everton's players wanted it a lot more than our lot!!!

He's not injury prone he's just s**** defensively!!!

The thing that made me laugh about the didi "squealed like a girl" comment was that he appologised to didi in the book as he didn't get round to doing it personally. Come on Stevie you seen him nearly every day in training for god knows how many years after the comment to say it, but you didn't get time There is a lot in there about England and it comes across to me that he cares about England just as much as he does Liverpool (half the book is about England), which comes across in the Chelsea Euro 2004 saga with his comments to Owen. Personally I've always been a club before country man as I believe most LFC fans are but with Stevie it comes across as pretty much 50/50. One final thing and it might be that I got a pre-final-check version (28th August from WHSmiths) but come on Stevie it wasn't Etherington that you where chasing and hit the cross-shot that went in it was Konchesky I know you might have been caught up in the moment of the game but at least get your co-writers (Henry Winter / Paul Joyce) to check facts before it goes in a book!

My first Derby match at Woodison. Everton had watered the pitch very heavily before the game and we where 1-0 down for most of the game before god equalised with 3 minutes to go! Game Date :: 16.04.1996 Competition :: Premier League Everton 1 - 1 Liverpool Goals: Robbie Folwer '87 Starting line-up 1 David James 25 Neil Ruddock 5 Mark Wright 2 Rob Jones 12 John Scales 4 Jason McAteer 10 John Barnes 17 Steve McManaman 15 Jamie Redknapp 23 Robbie Fowler 8 Stan Collymore Subs 26 Anthony Warner 16 Michael Thomas 9 Ian Rush

Well according to Stevie himself he did! That is one thing he strongly puts to bed in his book (great read finished in a day!). The fact that GH discovered him etc.... he says that by GH saying that (and he strongly praises GH later) is an insult to Heighway and the academy staff as well as Roy Evans. It was Roy Evans that gave Stevie his first proffesional contract and only that Stevie was suffering from injuries at the time otherwise Roy would have called him up sooner to Melwood and repeatedly told Stevie this! It was Burgues (not GH) who went to watch Richie Partridge and came away impressed with Stevie and it was with Burgues recomendation (even though Roy had recommended him to GH before he left) that GH went and took a look at Stevie, it wasn't GH that spotted him and Stevie makes this clear as day in his book! So Roy has got to take some credit he might not have improved him as a player but he gave him his first pro-contract and knew the ability he had for the future of LFC!

Have to agree apart from setting up the goal for Crouch today he constantly gave the ball away and I thought he'd have been the first player substitued. But back to Kuyt - he looked really good and we got a close look at him being in the Upper Anny, his movement, strength, touch and awareness were all great. One of the best debuts I've seen in a while and here's hoping he keeps it going and gets even better. The great thing was that his 3rd touch was a good shot, his first two where for positioning the shot! Kuyt and Bellamy IMHO should be our first choice strike partnership from now on and give them a good run of games to try and get a good understanding together!

Anybody know what the squad is? On Sky they've announced that Kuyt is in the squad so does anybody know the squad that has travelled?

It's just that on Amazon when you clicked on the author i.e. Phil Thompson it takes you to Thommo's autobiography which makes you think that it is the same author. -

Did we actually bid for Duff or is it just Sky Sports News speculation - personally I can't see Rafa paying £10 million for a Left Winger when we've got Kewell, Speedy, Zenden, Riise, Warnock and Garcia who can all play on the left! There is nothing on the OS about us having a bid accepted or even making a bid etc..... If he has chosen Newcastle over Liverpool then he can enjoy the money and a football career of winning nothing like Owen! Maybe he should have spoke to Owen first about joining Newcastle over Liverpool (if the bid is true)

Apart from the obvious Istanbul moments like "mission impossible is accomplished" etc.... My Favourite has to be the one that is in my Signature - Fowler's 3 minute hat-trick agains Arsenal. "Is this going to be his hat-trick.......It could still be.......IT IS!!!"
