I think it's a bit strong to say "manipulating facts" - I knew very little about Dubai until the takeover fiasco, likewise I'm holding fire until I know more about Gillette, if his takeover happens. And it's still an IF.

From : SPIEGEL ONLINE - September 14, 2006, 03:54 PM URL: http://www.spiegel.de/international/spiege...,437017,00.html Draw your own conclusions. I personally find Israel's treatment of the palestinians repugnant, but banning Jews, outlawing trade unions and running an effective dictatorship tells you all you need to know about Dubai. Like I said, lucky escape.

It doesn't, as mentioned in my post a few pages back. It also has form for slavery - the way it treats it's guest workers is appalling - not to mention the racing scandel. We're well-rid.

It wouldn't be very "liverpool" to sign a *big* and *ageing* player like Henry, however times are a changing, if we are to have shed-loads of money and owners keen to spend it, why not? I don't think he'd come, despite his protestations of affection for us and our traditions, hasn't he already said he'd not play for another prem club? I think he'd be after another challange in spain or italy.

Moores and Parry would have kept their jobs if DIC had taken over also. DIC may not be an "upstart" company but they've either behaved incredibly naively by ditching the deal as soon as some competition turned up, or it was a stage-managed (i.e. spun) exit. I would favour the latter scenario, they are experienced business people, shrewd, astute, they would have know that as soon as a higher bid was put in Moores would have been obliged to consider it. The whole DIC pullout stinks to high heaven.

Good analysis, which is why Garcia is important to the team. A little bit of Dalglish like cunning would have been useful yesterday.

I applaud the sentiment, but how are they going to do this effectively without using the press. The club have marched us up to the top of the hill with DIC, they are now marching us back down again with Gillette, they've made a rod for their own backs, but such is the complexity of media management these days. In the absense of anything more concrete I'm trusting the board on this one.

One ring to rule them all

We'll probably never know the inns and outs of what happened. I'm just glad that we're not owned by a country surrounded by some of the most unstable states on the planet which is constitutionally anti-semitic (try getting into Dubai if you're jewish) and has a highly dubious human rights record.
-
I think this is pretty straightforward, the club wouldn't have plumped for the Gillette deal unless it was at least equally as impressive as DIC. I'm actually quite pleased DIC have pulled out, as mentioned previously, I don't think being effectively owned by the leaders of a country in a hugely unstable part of the world is good long-term strategy. There is also a concern about human rights abuses which hasn't gone away. Not to mention the 7 year sell-on scenario. I think the PR job the club had done to sell DIC to the fans had blinded some of us to these drawbacks. In the cold sober light of day DIC doesn't seem such an attractive option - which is obviously what the board thought too. This is pure conjecture on my part but it's possible that An Aswari being a fan - sold the idea to the prince who was never really that interested or convinced, as soon as a complication arose he pulled out. Just imagine what might have happened if DIC had taken us over and after a couple of years the prince had decided to do the same? Lucky escape I'd say.

Wilson's a blue nose, he's always slagging us off. He's a literate version of Andy Grey, ignore him.

They are quite small, Johnson's tiny like......he was being literal
-
Bascombe says that DIC never actually tabled a bid but rather an "expression of interest" which is one of the things that irked the club.

Any good tesco songs being lined up for tomorrow???

I'm responding to the quotes in the grauniad article/

DIC have come over as being very petulant, even naive about this. What the hell do they expect the club to do - this is business, someone comes in with a better offer, what the hell do they expect the club to do? Me thinketh they protest too much. Smokescreen I reckon. I reckon they were getting cold feet and looking for an excuse to pull out. I'm not displeased actually, aside from the 7 years rumour, that part of the world isn't the most stable, who knows what might have happened in the future.

pedantic moi? (canadien pronunciation) ;-)

Post saying that Gillette to own club by the weekend, DIC think that the club have played them off against Gillette and are really pissed off - the club have acted dishonourably. The club are saying that it was becoming increasingly clear that DIC were not the solution that they had thought they were. Looks like bad feeling/face saving all round..... we're going to be owned by a Canadien........

apologies if this has already been posted, but the second part of the statement from DIC. "Liverpool is the most successful football club in English football history. It exists to win things for its supporters. It deserves to be in the hands of people who support it, who understand its history and legend and who share the enthusiasm and passion of its fans. As businessmen, we move on. As fans, we hope that the new owners would share the same vision as we had for LFC and, of course, in realising the new stadium that is so badly needed to ensure the club can continue to compete at the highest level in the Premiership and Europe."

He'll be in the counting house, counting out his money.........

He's a lying leg-breaking c***. Lucky escape, what a revolting individual. Hope he enjoys it next season in the championship.

"If Liverpool win today [edit...obviously tomorrow] ]they will be one point better off than at the same stage last season and also equal their highest number of points in a Premiership season after 24 games. They also accumulated 46 points in 1996-97." offal link
