  4. Liverpool FC's Community Department has just announced a new opportunity open to Disability impaired children in the Merseyside area. This centre is open to the general public and is free of charge. The Disability Centre will run from 6pm-7pm Tuesday to Friday. It's sited at St Margaret's CE School in Aigburth. There's transport information and contact details at the bottom of the linked page. If you know of anyone who could benefit from this then please pass on this information and encourage them to get involved. The coaching sessions are targeted at young people with disabilities who do not normally get the chance to play football through either lack of opportunity or ability. For more able footballers we also have an Under 16’s ability counts team and are starting an Under 12’s team. If you are interested in this centre or know of anyone who would be please feel free to contact the Community Department via the contact details on the link. --- I got an email about this and I think it's a great idea. Hopefully even if you're reading this and you don't know anyone who could directly benefit you may know someone who does.
  5. I thought this was both an interesting question and a bit of an inditement of the modern game: Football's changed a lot since '81 and that fantastic goal. Would modern day expectations have robbed you of that goal by forcing you to have gone over the trailing leg of the last challenge?
  6. Cheers Ant. Alas one of the conditions of employment is that I can only buy proper drinks, beer, lager and a white wine for the ladies. I think wkd is a sackable offence I doubt it but he's a regular contributor and a really nice bloke as well.
  7. Hi All, (I know some of you will have seen on rawk that I'm no longer moderating there. I've left to take up a position at Liverpoolfc.tv ) The legendary scorer of the winning goal in the 1981 European Cup Final, Alan Kennedy will be appearing soon on LFC.TV. Barney Rubble played over 250 games for Liverpool between 1978 and 1985, picking up 2 European Championships, Five League Titles and 4 League Cups. If you've any questions you'd like to ask our former full back then please write them here and I'll pass them on to the TV guys. Ideally you should include your name with the questions but if you prefer to keep that to yourself then please IM questions with your name to me and I'll pass them on. You can also email them direct via communitymanager at liverpoolfc.tv Cheers, Matt
  8. Surely the answer is 'all of them'.
  9. He's probably more talented but when the two have played together for the reserves Plessis has looked a level above in terms of physical presence etc. Given the demands of our league you have to look too strong and quick for the others around you in the reserve league and Spearing hasn't, at least in the past. I've been to reserve games and Plessis, despite his one footedness has looked more likely to be able to compete at the higher level.
  10. I agree with that. That concern may have been a factor in Carragher quitting International football. Even more so in choosing not to return even when they appointed a manager who would've truly valued his contribution. There's no player I'd sooner see in the shirt on the big occasion but given the strength we have there I'd hope Carragher can play less games without people drawing conclusions. He shouldn't neccesarily be dropped but he should be rested.
  11. I don't think he reached that level of influence on a game from the fullback position. For an all too brief period Babbel was exceptional. Although one could argue that the way we were set up back then played into the hands of an attacking fullback and allowed Babbel to shine.
  12. Leo you could always apply that 'keep him as cover' logic to players but there comes a point when it's self defeating, patricularly in a physically demanding position suchas fullback. If Arbeloa isn't good enough (I think he is) then he should be replaced, likewise Degen if he doesn't work out. If we need a 'solid' reliable defensive option then Carragher can come in. Keeping on an aging pro, on relatively high wages is just postponing the inevitable. Even if he could pick up the pace again we can't afford the run of games for him to do it and at his age and seniority he should be playing anyway. It's time for him to move on and play out his top flight football at a club which plays less games. Liverpool were always ruthless in changing the guard and hopefully that will remain the case.
  13. With Australia now playing in the Asian group of countries perhaps Kewell is taking geography into account. Istanbul is closer to Australia but also closer to the places the Australian side will be playing during qualifying.
  14. Kaka's a smokescreen for a clone army of Pele's, Maradona's and Di Stefano's. It cost 30 trillion to construct on the Dark Side of the Moon but LFC paid 40 trillion cash and told'em to keep the change. The real purpose of building a new stadium is to dig a hole big enough to put the club's cash reserves in. Rafa has the players running up mountains of cash but its getting difficult to open the changing room doors for all the £50 notes getting stuck in the doorway. 'Dipping in' to the stadium funds sounds like sound financial management, it's free money after all. We should get that Peter Ridsdale in to advise on how best to spend it.

  16. I think you're underestimating our Dutchmen. Sure Dirk isn't the most likely person to score but he's bloody persistent. Doubt he'd let the first second or ten thousandth knock back put him off. She might finally acqueisce just for a quiet life. As for Babel he could be leaving through the back door before Rafael had even turned the key, with his gammy knee he'd never catch him even if he cottoned on.

  18. Determined as a young turk, on the shoulder of a defender he's been known to lurk, lambasted by the odd jerk, try to ignore them or they'll drive you berserk. Dirk
  19. On the plus side he'll get a rest, he played in the under 21 tournament last season so he didn't rest then either. However that's not going to make up for him missing a chunk of the pre-season.
  20. It's a bit naff though isn't it? *Runs away
  21. From the very little I've seen of Mancini I've not been impressed. Plenty of flair but little end product was the impression I got. Has anyone seen enough of him to make a decent judgement of him?
  22. I'll bet I'm not the only one who really doesn't want to see SG back in central midfield. He offers so much in the advanced free position that would be lost if he's further back. What's more I don't think he suits that playmaker/tempo setting role half as much. I'm not saying he can't do it because there's not a position on the pitch he couldn't do a decent job in, but there's others I'd rather see there. Lesser players no doubt but perhaps more attuned to the needs of that position. As for Michael, if it weren't for the connection with the club would we be calling for this player to be signed? That is, after weighing up likely wage committments, transfer fee, injury record and recent playing position would this be the player we'd need to go after? He seems to be more effective playing in the hole now, even if Gerrard were to move from there surely Benayoun is a more natural choice for that position? Or Dirk Kuyt, a decent second striker when he doesn't spend all his time doing the leg work. He lacks pace but then so does Owen these days. I'd sooner see us sign someone who can replace Crouch's qualities and build upon them. That means a player who can lead the line on his own up front if required but can also offer something different and link with Torres too. So I'd sooner see the money spent on an up and coming Kenwyne Jones type player with something to prove and a different set of attributes to the players who are already here.
  23. "Innkeep! Innkeeper, open up I say, you have custom!" The man knocked impatiently on the stout wooden door. His daughter sighed as she wearily left the carriage, it had been a long journey. "Patience good sir I beg you! I shall attend to you anon". The muffled voice was accompanied by the sound of heavy bolts being drawn, yet when the door opened it was only by an inch, any further movement prevented by a heavy chain. The traveller didn't know whether to be amused or offended. Such precautions suggested he had entered a vertiable war zone yet the region was peaceful and his journey, although tiring, had been without incident. "By the Saints sir" he exclaimed, "we are but weary travellers and mean you no harm! Open up I beg of ye" The inkeeper looked warily from his doorway. "A moment Good sir I beg of you. May I see your jerkin?" "My jerkin? Good lord sir what has possessed you?" the man thundered, as his initial amusment changed to anger. As he prepared to tell the Innkeeper what he could do with his request he felt a soft touch on his shoulder. "Father, please?" his daughter whispered, the fatigue as evident in her voice as her countenance. As ever he could not refuse her and he reluctantly loosened his topcoat and allowed the Innkeeper to see the red jerkin he wore beneath. The sound of the chain being removed was accompanied by a barrage of apologies from the Innkeeper. "Thank you good sir, I most humbly beg your pardon and that of your good daughter. We weren't always like this, times were our hospitalitiy was the stuff of legend, alas, time change". The weary travellers followed the Innkeeper into a cosy bar area, with cheerful red walls wherein a dozen locals were engaged in quiet conversation. In the corner an old man was tunelessly picking at a lute. The travellers felt the wary eyes scanning their backs. "I'm afraid we have but simple fayre here master, but our rooms are warms and clean." The Inkeeper was saying as the traveller turned from surveying the bar. "That won't be neccesary, good sir, a warm meal is all we shall require of you. We must travel on to the castle this very night." Abruptly the background conversation ceased. The old man plucked the lute so hard he broke a string and promptly dropped the instrument with a clatter. The Innkeeper gave a startled gasp and grabbed the man's arm fiercely. It was as if he'd drawn his sword and threatened the room with instant death. "The Castle? Sir tell me true do you mean Castle Groundshare?" The traveller laughed nervously. "Why no my good fellow, It's name is Castle Bradley, Groundshare is but an old wives tale, if it ever really existed it died long ago." The mood in the room had darkened. The Old man, bent to pick up his instrument and muttered something as he spat heartily into the open fire. The traveller, loosening the grip of the innkeep on his sleeve prepared to leave the bar and take his chances on food being available at Castle Bradley but before he could suggest as much the old man turned to them and pointed a gnarled finger at his daughter. "Leave them be Jeremiah,' said a nearby local. "They'll find out soon enough". "It never dies" said Jeremiah faintly, "you think its dead but it rises again, from the very depths of the grave does it rise!" His voice began to rise on volume "Go ye not to Castle Groundshare, listen not to the babblings of Count Bradley for he himself is in thrall to the evil" "Father! What does this mean?" shrieked the frightened girl. "Are the rumours true? Does Groundshare really live once more?" TBC
  24. It's a disgrace. Someone should do something.
