  1. since when were football fans or the media logical? forget any honeymoon period to summer? notw are running stories already about his regin imploding the shearer situation is a fiasco i might have a few quid on shearer being newcastle manager by easter
  2. any names? michah richards - prob cost 20m fabiano - seville or milito of zaragoza prob another 20m as somebody said above two top players we've seen effect torres as had no more squad players two players who will be among first names on team sheet
  3. pressure starting to mount on keegan they haven't scored a goal under him yet
  4. Say we have 40m to spend in the summer number is off top of my head but similar to monies spent recently who would you buy for us?
  5. if we were away to them then you could argue for it being shown but i would be annoyed as a neutral if our game was on over say spurs and united which has makings of a cracker i won't predict what i think will happen in our game mockers and all that
  6. one more thing since the new owners came in we seem to get better/more market prices for players we sell before we used to get r*ped when selling players is that due to their influence? all we can do is wait and see and support the team danger of cutting off our nose to spite our face in all of this 70k seater means more of us would get to see our team regularly
  7. over on rawk somebody who claimed to have inside information said that refinancing would come before any sale as otherwise they would be in a weaker position in negotiating with dic mascherano plus 70k seater stadium plus backing rafa debt for stadium on the club do we need to wait and see before passing sentence here
  8. he is a ladypart and always has been I would not give any credence to anything he has to say
  9. Article is based on supposition for example "Most of Liverpool’s summer transfer dealings were for undisclosed fees. Where fees have been mentioned, they were often incorrect. For example Fernando Torres, often quoted as costing £26.5m actually cost at most £20m Paul’s article shows Rafa spent £48.45m on transfers in 2007, and that’s including the January transfer window which was before the owners arrived, where he listed Javier Mascherano’s loan fee of £1.5m and Alvara Arbeloa’s £2.6m fee. That £48.45m spent is offset by the money Rafa clawed back. According to the article, that was a total of £27.75m." How does he know this? Players cost more than transfer fees - have to factor in wages, agents fees etc etc Article is based on conjecture. TBH - if they stay we won't have a clear handle on this until the next transfer windown in the summer. very few worthwhile signings are available at this time of year and those who are are overpriced because of premium of not being CL tied And we all expected things would be tight for a few years until stadium was built.
  10. Ellis is stirring
  11. we don't know that united's interest payments are 0.5m less than their operating profit
  12. re-read the post very few people who are rich enough to invest in a club were boyhood fans so they do it to earn money i used liverpool and united players to show example was not club specific not even sure if a fan as an owner/chairman is a good idea newcastle now leeds under risdale us under moores
  13. how do you know what money he has used to fund player transfers how do u know that it wasn't loaned to chelsea what debt did he take on when he bought chelsea what happens if he dies tomorrow?
  14. point is that if you look at their numbers there is no spare cash for transfers but glazers are funding it either from own resources or loans why won't gillett and hicks do likewise are we concerned that they are not rich enough to fund us?
  15. my point is that if he had come in we may be in a potentially worse scenario once businessmen invest in a club in many ways the club has lost its soul none of these investors had posters on their wall of rush/daglish/best/charlton as a kid but they have deep pockets and are there to make a profit they will make a profit by achieving more success/european qualification is the issue with gillett and hicks that they are not rich enough to own us?
  16. Moores could have but never did anybody investing in a business expects a return nobody is going to come in and just give the club 45m chelsea is worth more today than what abramovich bought it for plus the money he spent on transfers
  17. that would have meant no new stadium and no torres though he was castigated for not selling if i recall
  18. Are we going through what united went through in relation to the glazers. the glazers paid about 200m too much for united but they have still been able to finance new player purchases part of me thinks that many football supporters just hate the idea of big business/capitalism and its involvement in sport not saying its a good thing but all the speculation and half truths spun by the media seem to have whipped people into a frenzy who don't really understand much about finance but hear the word loan/mortgage and think of leeds
  19. In hindsight would you have preferred Moores sold to Thaskin? BTW - I heard from a v reliable source that Everton were nearly sold within the last three months to a group of russian businessmen but the deal fell through because of money laundering regulations in England and the group was unable to satisfy them
  20. would we have bought torres and babel under the previous owners? seems that last summer was the first time for a long time that we had money to buy players at top end of the market i'd be happy with that level of signing in the future to supplement some great young players coming through instead of buying six decent/international class professionals
  21. exactly right. all the new owners of clubs are not doing it as benefactors they are doing it with an eye on "sell each game over internet/tv rights" and a successful club and dare i say it brand will be more valuable than one that isn't sunderland's owners plan to sell on in five years. glazers saddled united with debt. chelsea depend on abramovich not being assassinated etc etc i personally think we will end up in ten years with a european super league along the lines of nfl franchise and that four divisions of professional football in england is not sustainable but that's another argument
  22. 100 pages of speculation, half truths, media lies, pr spin finance thread is the new transfer thread i guess all we can do is wait and see what i do know is that the papers seem to know less than nothing same as transfer speculation really

Our potential new owners agree with me (well kind of). Maybe it deserves a new thread but we are so caught up in champions league (for good reasons) that we forget how long it has been since we even challenged for the title. Similar to premiership being so important for other clubs that teams like reading sacrifice a cup run and maybe a shot at a trophy to stay in the premiership i.e. coppell resting players for fa cup matches. When Dubai’s first attempt to buy Liverpool failed last year, Al Ansari gave an unusually emotional response in a DIC press release. He said: “Liverpool is the most successful football club in English football history. It exists to win things for its supporters. It deserves to be in the hands of people who support it, who understand its history and legend and who share the enthusiasm and passion of its fans. “I am sure I will be back at Anfield with my family soon to support my team, as I have done so in the last 30-plus years. In the meantime, I wish the manager, the players and everyone connected with the club the best of fortune for the challenges ahead and will make sure that I am there the day they lift the Premiership trophy.”

if by work you mean win the league then his tactics don't work he doesn't seem to have come to terms with the fact that technically its below spain, italy but pace of the game is much higher and u need a different type of approach ferguson has struggled in europe for the same reason - tried to play the same as they did in england and got picked off by technically better teams

third is nowhere given the gap in money between the "top four" and other clubs it is next to impossible to break into the top four champions league money has seen to that we exist to win the league and we won't win it with rafa in my opinion the obsession with champions league football is masking failure and third or fourth is failure how many points off the pace were we/are we since he came we finished second under previous managers and they were deemed not good enough
