Liverpool FC vs Stoke City - Tues 27 Dec 5.15pm
LFC4Life replied to Sir Tokyo Sexwale 's topic in Liverpool FC
I am not worried about Chelsea at this stage. They are on an unbelievable run and have been injury free so far. You would hope they face some adversity over the course of this season. As long as we win our winnable games, we'll be fine. As frustrating as it is, had it not been for the injuries and disruptions, we would have been neck and neck with Chelsea. Even factoring injuries, we should have won all our games barring Burnley and Utd. -

True but then we have screwed up many a times when our rivals have played first and dropped points. The fact that everyone won yesterday should help us keep focus. -
Bit harsh that. Sakho missed a team meeting which was organised by Klopp. Sakho's actions impacted the whole squad i.e held up the flight. Firmino's actions do not impact the team. He will get a talking to by Klopp. From a moral perspective - drink driving is a despicable act. The court should ban him from driving for minimum 6 months.

I don't mind if we rest him against Stoke and save him for City.

Coupled with more injuries to first team players compared to the other top 4. -
Agreed. He's better than Houghton. He has a touch of class about him and he will only get better. Honestly, I feel much calmer with him in midfield than Can. Don't know why but I do.
-
I think that applies to the whole first team. It looks like we are getting our mojo back allied with some steel and grit.
-
Would a defensive midfielder help us stop conceeding so many goals?

I think Klopp sees Can as the long term solution there. I believe he does not think he is ready to take on that role just yet. Dahoud will be playing further up. -

Where would Sturridge be playing? It could be argued that Origi actually does a better job for the team due to his pressing. -

Looks like. Even more depressed than last week. It is not looking good for the next few weeks. -

Why do we switch off after going a goal up. Klopp needs to lay into these. -

That game is an aberration. Every team has that over the course of the season. The Bournemouth game told me a couple of things: 1. If we are focused, we will rip teams apart. If we get c*cky, we are susceptible to these type of losses. 2. Our defence is rubbish without Matip. -

What about Hendo Can and Mahmoud Dahoud? -
Karius will come good. He is in a new league with a new system. It will take time. I thought he looked okay before the nightmare at Bournemouth. The next 3-4 games will determine what kind of character he is as the spotlight is firmly on him now.
-
The Greatest Manager in the history of the game, bar none.
-
I think he will come good. He is a good shot stopper. Bournemouth was a bad game for everyone and a horrific one for Karius. Klopp will not drop him. I am okay with that for now.

I think they should take the supporters that traveled to watch that heartbreaking loss. I am sure I can call in sick for a couple of days on the grounds of Post-traumatic stress. -

And extra training sessions to get them to regain their focus. -

We can talk about this all day. We have one game a week so there is no need for such a big squad. No one could have predicted the amount of injuries and the type of injuries we have had. Contrast this with Chelsea - zero injuries to key players (here's hoping they now have a slew of injuries to key players). We need a bit of luck. -

Aye. As painful as it was, Klopp said it was only 3 points. It is early days. I have a good feeling about this season - I don't know why but I do. Might have something to do with mad professor in charge of our team. -

I am thinking that is how we are set up. Klopp's philosophy is that the best form of defence is to attack and dominate the opposition. We needed to reign everything in yesterday after the 3rd goal and take the sting out for at least 5 minutes before going again. It was just a very very bad day. It happens. It is not the first time we have lost a match and it sure as hell will not be the last (although I am hoping we go on a 20 game unbeaten run). This team has had to deal with an unbelievable amount of injuries which has disrupted our rhythm. Off the top of my head, the number of games missed by players is as follows: Matip - 3 games Coutinho - 3 games* Lallana - 3 games Mane - 1 game Lovren - 2 games Gini - 3 games Can - 5 games Firmino - 2 games * does not include the 8 games he will miss between now and Jan. That is a staggering 22 games combined missed by our starting 11. Despite this, we are sitting 3rd (on goal difference). Chelsea on the other hand have had it relatively easy on the injury front. As someone said, let's see how they cope if they lose Costa or Hazard. -

You are not alone. I was hoping we put these type of games away but from time to time they rear their ugly head again. -

Got back from the game last night. I am still numb (and that is not just from the cold). I am hoping to wake today and pretend that did not happen. Oof that hurt.
