Andy, regardless of the extent of Mendes' injuries; Thatcher, with malice aforethought, set out to take another player out of the game in the most cowardly fashion imaginable. This has nothing to do with the respective toughness of the participants. Regardless of the sport or how tough it is a pre-meditated action like that cannot be tolerated. More to the point, the leniency you refer too has much to do with incompetant and weak officials, much like Dermot Gallagher.

We'll have to see if Thatcher writes a book about it. The systems in place if you've got some sh*tehouse going out to maim people rather than play the game. Of course, sometimes he's sorted out on the pitch. If you've got a tough game then stuff happens and you walk off and have a beer together but it's safe to say something as cowardly as that would mean you wouldn't make it to the bar, were sent off or summararily cited.

It's a straight red, probably a full citing with committee review and, depending on the damage inflicted, possible criminal procedings at all levels of rugby above Colts (16+). It happens more than in football for obvious reasons but they've got a system to deal with it.

He never even looks at the ball. It's almost a carbon copy of the one mentioned above.

He's got form for doing this too. I remember when he was at Wimbledon he was charging up the flank and actually changed direction to plant an elbow into Gray's (I think) face. I've not seen this challenge yet though.

Pleat's uttelry useless knowledge of players came to the fore again when asked about Kuyt. He wittered on for over a minute yet never once said anything about Kuyt as a player, just generic rubbish about Rafa now having more options. Expert my @rse, the kerb crawling sheep shagger.
