Question for Muslim forumites

Actually I just wanted to know if and why it was a more serious atrocity. I'm not a Muslim, so I have no clue. But, on the face of it, it looks to be far worse to me. I was hoping for someone to fill me in on why I might be wrong.

BTW Dee, that Bamiyan event was terrible. A crime against humanity really.

I'm sure you've seen the news from Iraq today. I have to ask you this. Was blowing up this Shi'a shrine today in Iraq a worse crime against Islam than the cartoons? Is it more serious for the Shi'as or not serious at all for Sunnis?

Sunni and Shia.

I've read that Sunny shrines have been desecrated in revenge. It's consistent...I guess...

as a muslim Prophet Mohammed (SAW) is someone who any muslim hold dear more than anything, so a shrine even though its disgusting is just not on the same level.. Its shameful and unislamic behaviour though

Are you speaking as a Muslim ?

The shrine was the resting place of 2 of the Immam's believed to be direct descendants of Mohammed. If thats not an insult to the prophet then I don't know what is. But again, it would be interesting to hear a Muslim opinion.

I think its the case that Muslims are not supposed to assign any sort of lofty status to the prophet Muhammed (pbuh) and his family. So I suppose any sort of elaborate shrines would go aginst that principle. Still not at all justified of course

I had this image in my minds eye of perplexed soldiers and UN workers standing by watching this like the romans in 'Life of Brian' as the Jews attack each other at a stoning.

It does seem to have depressingly comic elements about it all - ' should we should unite against the common enemy' together: 'The People's Front of Judea! ' (exchange for Baghdad/Basra etc...)

that is rubbish, this crime is a millions times bigger than a simple cartoon

Violence like this has to be worse than a bloody cartoon, saying anything else would be insane!

Hassony has always struck me as giving a sensible representation of Islam - top man.

All you see in the media is the things that extremists get up to, and its nice to see what I'd say is a much more measured comment on here from him.

I've petrol bombed some places of worship in my time. It's a lot more fun than reading cartoons.

Does that answer your question?

The Danish editor who published that cartoon insulting Islam hopes his latest book doesn?t cause further offence.

It?s called: Buddha is a big fat c***.

See that's where I start to get confused. Isn't the whole reflex response of having to postfix his name with 'pbuh'/'SAW' both verbally and even in forum message boards(!), and protesting against or threatening anyone who draws a likeness of him or insults him or disagrees with his teachings a form of idolatry?
