The football show on Newstalk

I never really listened to it much before but I subscribed to the podcast a couple of weeks back and have been listening since.

Anyone else listen to it? It's f*cking awful, the presenters are sensationalist morons who spend the whole show reading from the paper in a smug voice and pontificating on topics they know f*** all about.

It sounds really amateurish.

Dead right. Only heard it once or twice, it's insufferable.

And I've nothing against equal opportunities or something but if someone has a) a comedy-style lisp, b) a comedy-style culchie accent, and c) no knowledge of soccer, why would you put them on a Dublin radio soccer show?

Who is that guy, is he still on it? I want to punch him on the nose.

Think I know the guy you mean, he's rarely on it anymore, think he does all the GAA stuff. It's usually Eoin McDevitt and Ken Earley now.

They get some good interviews on the rest of the show, but the football bit is pathetic.

I think its ok. Johnny Giles singing YNWA last season after we won the Champions League.

Last night they had Paddy Agnew on about the Juventus doping case.

They have some good guests on and they take the P1ss quite a bit.

Better than most of the other stuff on the radio imo.

Can be good sometimes, they had Ballague on last night talking about Rafa and the CL final.

On the other hand, they went on about the Riise medal thing the other evening as if it was gospel and the biggest scandal ever. No mention of the dubious merits of the source.

The interviews are good sometimes, but I'm on about "the football show" the bit after ten they dedicate just to football with Ken Earley an A.N. Other.

The Riise thing is one of the reasons I posted this, it was tabloid radio, sh*te journalism. There was no story there but they couldn't be arsed doing a bit of research to find that out for themselves, instead they just put on "funny" voices while reading the story verbatim from the paper.

I don't mind the footbal show depending on the guests. It's not the same since Ger Gilroy left the show though.

Ken Earley does his 'round up' by ghoing through a few fora like this and ripping off what he reads.

Yeah, agree on both points, I wouldn't be surprised if he's a member on here.

Ger Gilroy was good alright, heard him on there last week. I've a feeling he still produces it.

in fairness to the show they have a lot of time to fill and its something that i leave on if i'm in the car on my own.

Ger has been back on it recently. He is much better than Eoin or Gerry. Ken Early can be funny on occasion but the football show tends to be a platform for him to rant about his favourite subjects and pet hates. 1. Roy Keane 2. Gerard Houllier 3. Francesco Totti. THink I heard him say that he's a red. They do get great guests on though.

I find myself thinking that Ken Early knows feck all about football sometimes, or perhaps is trying to dumb it all down for a wider appeal or summat.

That's a good shout, sometimes I think he knows more than he lets on but holds it back to appeal to the audience.
