Space Cadets

Recommended Posts

Was reading about this in the Guardian TV guide over the weekend. Apparently they told the contestants that they wouldn't experience weightlessness since the new breed of spaceships included "gravity generators".

They've selected people who are "open to suggestion" rather than plain stupid, although to fall for that line I'd suggest both qualities are required in abundance.

From Holy Moly:

"Anyone watching Space Cadets (or remedial class as it used to be called in the '80's) may notice one of the 'cadets' (The massive afro'ed 'plasterer') having his mop patted by Gordon Ramsay in that "this guy gave blood to my dying son" advert. "

Watched it yesterday for the first time, the place they took 'em to looked real enough but I suppose it's more about what you want to believe.

They explained the gravity stuff by claiming that although they were going to be at a certain height it wasn't far enough to be deep space and therefore zero gravity wouldn't be an issue, they seemed to swallow it. Reckon the actors that they have placed there can sow enough seeds to keep it up.

What if..

..they're all actors. They're all in on it..

The 'actual' point of the show is to make the viewer think they're watching idiots being made fools of, but really it's all one big hoax to make us watch it...?

CAR GAFFE COULD BLOW SPACE CADET SHOW

5 December 2005

THE new TV reality hoax show Space Cadets could be wrecked before it even starts - by a car tax disc.

Producers have gone to enormous lengths to fool contestants they are at a Russian astronaut training camp - rather than an ex-airbase in Suffolk.

But a Toyota on the set still has a British tax disc stuck in it. A passer-by said: "If they saw it they'd realise it was a con."

I reckon there'll be a load of this type of story in the papers for the duration of the show. I'd say they're given to the papers by the production company to attract more viewers

The thing that stretches my incredulity is the story that the idea for the show has just been bought by an American TV company so that they can run their own series later next year.

How dumb is that? Surely the idea is good for just one outing and word will get out even in deepest darkest continents like America that the show is a con?

Maybe though if they contained their recruitment from just the Bush family they would have more than an evens chance.

I couldn't work that story out because we drive on the left and Russians on the right. So Russian cars are left hand drive...

The "Russian" guard had Communist era hat badges on. Poor research.

Might be poor research, or it might be simply playing to their targets expectations. Can't say I've watched the show, but am I safe in betting that none of them are potential mastermind champions? By issuing communist era clothes etc they may well be making a situation where the lie is more convincing then the truth would be.

The fact that they are all a bit dumb should alert them to the idea no f*cker with an ounce of self-preservation would allow them on a rollercoaster, let alone a space station.

The whole concept sucks big time. End this 'reality' TV farce now for God's dake and start making PROPER programmes!!

Some reality TV is excellent. The Contender gives normal people the chance they never had in life, and they're there because they NEED this chance.

'Space Cadets' security "a joke"

Sunday, December 11 2005, 12:08 GMT -- by Daniel Kilkelly

Security at the top-secret Space Cadets base has been branded "a joke".

A reporter for The People used a borrowed pass and drove into the disused airfield three times, mingling with members of the crew. He even managed to enter the former hangar holding the fake space shuttle.

One guard apparently told him, "I haven't got a clue what to do. It's all a bit boring to be honest."

An insider explained, "They've spent millions on this but the guards appear to be in a parallel universe. They're about as much use as a fake spaceship. Security is a joke and they have handed out far too many passes."

Nah, I'd say they're all just media whores who are wannabe actors/singers/TV presenters etc. the same as all the Big Brother auditionees, half of them have been on TV before. The big fat black girl from BB2 was in a load of TV series, The Bill, Casualtyetc as a bit part actor, the bald lad from the same series was on Sky One's "The Villa"

Space Cadets settling in to life in 'space'

13 December 2005

The four contestants who have been chosen to take part in the spoof space mission as part of the show 'Space Cadets' are today enjoying their time on board the mock shuttle.

So far none of the contestants have doubted that they are actually travelling in space, with Paul even saying: "This is a dream come true, thanks for choosing me."

One of the cadets, Charlie, is aware that the show is a hoax. He is an actor who has been hired to make the experience more believable for the others.

He commented quietly yesterday: "I can't see how they'd think this isn't happening. We've been living in a virtual reality and there's no chink in the armour."

Shortly after blast-off, Paul seemed to suspect that there was a problem, saying: "It feels like we're still on the ground!"

But the captain explained to him: "There's no friction in space, that's why it's so smooth."

The 'specialist' forums have got people posting who say that some are regular people- but it appears at least two are actors.
