You need a place to camp out and gather resources before setting off for the island. The roads will be blocked.

why will the roads be blocked? maybe everyone headed home and hid when the trouble started

at some point, there will be contact, so the thing to do is prepare for it and stay mobile

first, head to the police station/army base in a range rover and get a ton of weapons and amo

put a couple of scrambler bikes in the back of the car in case you have to ditch it and go cross country

 

then head to the nearest marina, grab a boat and head south

hug the coastline all the way, cross the channel and keep going to one of those islands off France

 

don't forget the flame throwers for burning corpses and flambeing prawns
