Royal Ascot 2012

Starts tomorrow. Hopefully replicate last year when i tipped 3 winners and 2 long priced each way shots on the first day.

2.30 Queen Anne Stakes

And we kick off with 1-6 shot Frankel, who should win on all known form, although he only just prevailed last year at the meeting. Strong Suit has a live each way chance.

3.05 King's Stand

A sprint that i have little interest in, although Ortensia, getting three pounds from the other principals, should go very close.

3.45 St James Palace Stakes

A cracking renewal, with several very good horses in top form, but i've sided with Lucayan each way. I backed Power to win last year but Lucayan is likely to be three or four times the price of the O'Brien runner and could have improved past him.

4.25 Coventry Stakes

My favourite race on the first day, having backed the winner 7 times in the last decade. Dawn Approach is favourite, but i'm siding with Sir Prancealot, who reminds me of Strong Suit who won this race a couple of years ago. A high cruising speed with a turn of foot that should see off the Irish challengers in the final furlong.

5.00 Ascot Stakes

A race where the vast majority of horses have never run close to this distance before. One who has and should at least place at 20-1 is Cosmo De Medici, although i have a slight concern about the jockey's record at Ascot.

5.35 Windsor Castle Stakes

Some very quick 2 year olds here, but the Hannon yard should have another winner here with Lyric Ace, who i think has the best form and is still improving. A hot race, though.

I've also backed Mabait for the Royal Hunt Cup on Wednesday at 33-1 and bigger. The horse is running into form and was better than this a couple of years ago.

I'm going tomorrow. Looks like I might get lucky with the weather.

Not had a proper study of the races yet but I also fancy Lucayan.

I also have a good record in the Coventry. I once went through the card on the first day. Think it was 1994.

Two winners for me yesterday - Little Bridge and Most Improved.

Lumped on Prancealot - was convinced it would come home Bit disappointing. And as for Darryl Holland on Cosimo de Medici - what the hell was that all about? Kept it in last, and just...stayed there. Pathetic.

Frankel was extraordinary. Going to post it looked every inch the neurotic colt. Coming back, it just never stopped, like the rest of them were platers. Bizarre and amazing. It's still improving, I am sure. Get it up to 10f now, Cecil, absolutely nothing to gain by going for another mile race.

Busy and recovering from yesterdays debacle at the races and the evening bbq and footy. Agree with you Matty about Holland - he was f***ing awful. And about Frankel. No point going the Sussex route again other than to pick up some easy prize money.

Gone for Reply in the Jersey, Lay Time e/way in the Windsor, already had Mabait in the Royal Hunt Cup, Graphic Quest e/way in the Queen Mary, Hello Glory in the Sandringham.

Are these your tips for tomorrow? If not, can you post some?

The Fugue ought to win the Ribblesdale unless Buick gives it another stinker of a ride like he did at Epsom.

Get on the crook O'Brien's ew thing in that too.

Born to Surprise in the 4.25

Wrotham Heath in the 5.00
