The Missus is an employee & pays tax via PAYE.

 

She had to do some 'freelance' work and had to complete a self assessment - on line. Our neighbour is an accountant and gave her a hand to do it. She completed the assessment and duly paid £10,300 tax. She got an online receipt. Yesterday she got a penalty letter (£100) for failing to complete an assessment. She phoned them and was told that there was no record of an online assessment being submitted. "So why would I send you a payment for £10,300?" says the Missus. "Oh you'll just have to send in an appeal letter."
