Skeever Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Mods - Can this be a sticky for the next 24 hours ? The authors of "Liverpool: The Complete Record" who are also the editor and webmaster of LFChistory.net, Arnie Baldursson and Gudmundur Magnusson, will sign their book at Waterstone's, Liverpool One along with Liverpool legends Ron Yeats and Tommy Smith at 11am on Saturday, October 22. If you have enjoyed our work on the website throughout the years it's a good opportunity to say hi to us as well as getting a signed copy of our debut book that we are very proud of and put a lot of work into taking considerable care to find new angles on Liverpool FC's history and rare photos from families of former legendary players. Tommy Smith and Ron Yeats need no introduction. They played together in Liverpool's defence throughout the latter part of the 60's and boast a total of 1092 appearances for Liverpool between them. Yeats was Shankly's captain for 10 years, which means he's the longest-serving skipper in the club's history. At the end of his managerial career Bill Shankly paid Yeats the ultimate compliment: "He was a natural to be a captain; a big man who commanded respect and his position in the centre of defence meant that he could see everything going on in front of him. A captain should be like a puppeteer, with the other players on his strings all the time." Tommy Smith was as tough as they come as Bob Paisley could testify: "Tommy hated losing and was quite prepared to put himself through all manner of pain and suffering to avoid it. There was an element of notoriety about it which I think he quite enjoyed, but if any opponent cared to put that reputation to the test, Tommy didn’t disappoint them. His fearless nature not only unsettled the opposition, it inspired his team mates. They drew strength from his example. It was little bit like having a big brother around to sort out any trouble you got into. Seeing Tommy racing on to the field after having a couple of stitches inserted into a head wound could put courage into the most cowardly of hearts – as long as you were on his side!" So bring your shin guards (just in case) to Waterstone's for a unique opportunity to meet these magnificent legends from Liverpool's glorious history and purchase "Liverpool: The Complete Record book" with their signature. Mike Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I met Arnie and Gudmondor last week and as well as being thoroughly good blokes, the body of work they have produced is truly amazing, so this is highly recommended to all reds who can get there.
Case Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Only £15 on Amazon. Heard these two lads on the Wrap podcast last week - they were class. I'm gerrin' it for sure.
charlie clown Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 It is a fantastic book - great piece of research/scholarship and well worth the money. Its not often I'd say this because most football related books are a complete bag o' shoite, but this is a must but for any red. And my names in it!
