My Norton thingy, which came gratis with the PC has now expired; it tells me so every three f***ing minutes.

In NON-TECHNICAL terms what is my best option? Do I renew it or buy (or download for nowt?) another package. I thank you.

Assuming you're using Windows, the simplest option is to pay the money and just click one of the endless messages asking you to sign up. If you don't want to pay then you can use what Microsoft offer, depending on your version of Windows, or type "free anti-virus" into Google and take your pick; remember if you choose this option then don't forget to uninstall the Norton software in the Control Panel.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. Free and does the job.

I'm going to try that out

if it's one less piece of non-Microsoft software on my PC it'll be a result

I second, third, fourth and fifth this.

Easily the best security software I've ever used. Free, uses less resources than anything else, and works seamlessly with Windows.
