Richard Todd was a man to be admired. He volunteered to be parachuted in to occupied France in the early hours of D-Day in order to secure the bridge we now know as Pegasus Bridge. This was several hours before the main force had landed on the beaches and his unit succeeded in capturing and holding the bridge and in doing so, contributing massively to the success of D-Day itself. in the film 'The Longest Day', he played a character who is speaking to the man who was, in reality, Todd himself which must have been weird.
