Cancun in August

Hi folks,I'm looking to head away on holiday this summer-from about the 12th August onwards,and am considering Mexico.Specifically Cancun-for a nice relaxing beach holiday.

Has anybody been there at this time of year-what was the weather like,and what else is there to do besides beaches?

 

I know the weather is essentially pot luck,but we've been to the Maldives before in monsoon season,and despite the reduced price,and couple of days of good weather,it's not something we'd look to do again-purely because of the weather!
