He used to be funny once, as Stanley says, when it was actually a parody. Nowadays its like watching people laugh 'with' Alf Garnett as opposed to 'at' him.

I think half the problem is that his ITV show really doesn't do hm any favours. I've seen him live and he was excellent within the parameters of the character, but it is a failry limited character and a 20,000 seater is ridicuous. When I saw him it was the initimacy with the audience that made it work.

Nope - can't see how an audience (freebies notwithstanding) can feel like it's a unique experience. Theatres and clubs, yes - stadiums, no.

exactly - the scripted, set-piece routines were by far the weakest part of the live act - when he was bantering with the audience he was brutally quick and funny.
