Folk America

Anybody been watching this on the Beeb?

Generally really good if a little dry in places. Last nights involving Dylan and The Byrds was damn great though probably because there was some really good footage and it was still fairly recent compared to the 30's.

Some great stuff earlier on in the series about the likes of The Carter Family, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Harry Smith. 'Desperate Man Blues' is another great little film about this earlier era and well worth tracking down.

But, and it is a big but, why does the BBC keep on ending things like this at 1970? The recent glut of American folk should have at least got a mention. I think the BBC did this with the California programme that had The Eagles in it and that stopped at 1980 or something. Their New York documentary stopped well short of where it should too. It's a bit crap to be honest.

Apart from that, it was good Friday night TV.
