House structural surveys

In the process of buying, and our mortgage company wants a damp/timber survey plus quotes for the electrical and plumbing work before we can proceed. Given that the damp/timber survey has identified wet rot, woodworm and damp throughout, I'm a bit concerned there are more skeletons in the closet - would a structual survey be advisable or is it just going to tell me what I already know about the timber/electrics etc?
