Best place to stop off on way to Australia?

Visiting Australia next year and planning a stop over for 4/5 nights rather than a quick day turnaround

 

Been weighing up Dubai, Thailand and Singapore, wondering if any all knowing forumites could lend their expert opinion on which are better for a short break, or if there are any better places i haven't considered?
