Poulter and Casey

European Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo has named Paul Casey and Ian Poulter as his two wild card picks for next month's match at Valhalla.

Casey has played in the last two winning Ryder Cups while his fellow Englishman Poulter played in the 2004 win, also on American soil.

Faldo's decision means that Ryder Cup veterans Colin Montgomerie and Darren Clarke miss out.

Poulter and Casey both opted to play in America this week and missed the cut at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston.

But their decision clearly had no impact on Faldo in finalising his team to attempt to win a fourth successive Ryder Cup for Europe next month.

Faldo revealed that Open runner-up Poulter's attitude was one of the major factors behind his selection. "I don't have to reel off all their statistics," he told Sky Sports 3. "I've been watching these guys through the summer.

Makes sense really but maybe the team needed an old head or two??
