Windows vista and "not responding"

Bought a new pc for home when my other one just decided to die. A Dell Xps 420 with 3 gig of ram with Vista.

Well what a fecking waste of money that was. Imagine buying a 30 grand car that you couldn't even trust to take you to the corner shop and back. That's what I've just bought. No illegal software on it or anything as of yet. Just simply trying to play Itunes will eventually cause it to go into crash mode. I've had it for a week and it's bombed out more in the last 5 days than the Linux machine I use in work 7 days a week did in 3 years.

Any ideas at all? This can't be the standard?!?
