Now I don't want to start a whole debate about the Revolution, the pros and cons of Fidel,as I know that can of worms could go on for ages.

I'm currently reading a book about him, which is basically in the form of a long interview with a French journo, and it's a pretty fascination book-probably few more interesting characters in the 20/21st century than Castro.

My problem lies with the media portrayal of the regime over there, having briefly glanced at the BBC's website there's yet another article about "dissenting voices" amongst Cuba's youth-this time in the form of rappers.

The article begins with the following:

Earlier this year the curtain fell on nearly half a century of Fidel Castro’s rule. The Cuba he bequeathed to his younger brother Raul is economically crippled and its people are hungry for change.

Economically crippled. Does the US embargo have nothing to do with this? What was the state of the country like when the Revolution occurred?

Granted, later on in the article, the rappers interviewed talk about how they still revere Castro, and blame the bureaucracy under him.

I don't think I've seen a positive piece about Castro and the Communist regime in any respected UK paper,it's interesting how it still seems to be vogue to criticise his running of the country, and how the agenda seems to have stuck for all this time.
