My Dad just phoned - says he's lost the toolbar thingy (Start menu ?) at the bottom of his screen

i assumed he's just dragged it down but he swears it's not lurking at the bottom of the screen waiting to be dragged back up again

any ideas as to what he's done or how to get it back?

Try this?

Press the Windows key on the keyboard to bring up the Start Menu

Right-Click on the popped up Start Menu and select Properties.

Toggle the 'Auto-Hide the taskbar' checkbox and click Apply.

If it is now checked, move the cursor to the bottom, right, left, or top of the screen and the taskbar should re-appear.

Repeat step three to return to your original setting.

Follow the mouse around the screen edge until you get the double arrow. Left click and drag.

Move to correct position (left click and drag)

Right click, select lock toolbar.

EDIT - Theory being he may have dragged it to one side etc
