Good news lads ... If you're seeing a new girlfriend for the fifth time tonight don't forget your tooth brush - because chances are you'll end up in bed together.

New research reveals that four out of five girls reckon it's acceptable to have sex after just five dates - or around 22 hours - with a new fella.

A third will sleep with someone on the first date but others require more patience, with five per cent prepared to wait 12 MONTHS or longer before jumping into bed.

Jacqueline Gold, CEO of Ann Summers which commissioned the study of 5,000 women, said: ''This shows modern women know what they want - and when they want it.

''And it is truly an individual's decision.

''Girls feel far more free these days to go with what they feel is right for them and are confident enough to set the pace.

''And women should bear in mind that sexy lingerie, a confident attitude and a sparkle of romance may of course help.''

The study revealed that more ladies than ever before are now prepared to take the upper hand in the sex stakes.

Around 80 per cent of those polled said they would be prepared to have sex on the fifth date if it felt right.

Surprisingly, one in three said it was acceptable to have sex on a first date and 60 per cent said they had hopped into bed with a new man within a month of meeting him.

One in ten said they had bedded a man within MINUTES of meeting him and nine out of ten said they knew a girl who had gone to bed with a man within hours of getting together.

Just one in 50 women said they would not have sex with a man until they were husband and wife.

The research revealed the average in 'real time' from meeting to mating was 777 hours and 17 minutes - or 32 days.

Some people are so desperate to bed their lover they would be prepared to spend almost #25 getting them in the mood.

But while more than one in ten Coventry folk would be prepared to spend #100 or more to get someone into bed, tight-fisted people in Southampton would part with less than a fiver.

And more than two thirds of people responding to the survey in Cardiff admit they wouldn't spend any more than #5 to win a partner round.

It also emerged the office is still the number one place for meeting a potential partner. One in ten women polled said they had met - and bedded - someone they worked with.

And, take note with Christmas just around the corner, as 16 per cent said they had gone to bed with someone after getting together at an office Christmas party.

The poll found that those in Edinburgh are the quickest to jump into bed, with eight per cent saying it takes them an average of just 45 minutes to bed a man after meeting him.

A third of women in Brighton said they held out for an amazing two months before getting into the sack with their new date.

The poll also revealed that Leeds girls have had the most one-night stands - five compared to the UK average of just three.

At the other end of the scale, Norwich ladies have only had one.

Despite one in three women believing it was okay to have sex on a first date, 47 per cent say they would think badly of someone if they slept with a man so soon after meeting.

Almost 40 per cent said they tried to stick to a certain time limit before sleeping with someone for the first time - but a quarter always end up giving in and hopping into the sack before the 'deadline'.
