FAO anyone who knows about cars etc

Me and the missus are thinking about getting a new car and one of the girls in work is selling a Land Rover for a decent price. However it's a petrol one and not diesel. I'm sure I read somewhere that the petrol ones are beset with all sorts of problems etc so wondered if anybody knew the score on this? It's some sort of mechanical issue as opposed to MPG consumption etc so if anyone knows, that would be great.
