question about the gays

I was supping a few ales in the Lisbon yesterday, and got to wondering this:

 

when you hear that effeminate 'gay voice' - you know the one, it almost sounds like self parody - the person is almost always gay

 

where does that voice come from? homosexuality isn't physical in origin is it?

 

someone please explain
