on the break

one game in but a solution to our away problems could be the speed we have on the counter attack. Last season Stevie was the only outlet out right but now with Torres, Babel and Stevie bombing through the middle we have more options. At home we press the opposition but away when soaking up pressure we had no outlet last season. It looks a lot better this season, we just need Dirk to stay on shoulder of last defender to pop some gioaosl in. Babel looked quikc on a counter against Villa so our away form could improve

its one thing the mancs are excellent at... They seem prepared to go on the break after every defensive situation and they have the right players to do this. That goal Rooney scored against Bolton (I think) last year is a perfect example.. think it got goal of the season too..

It used to be one of our strongest points a few years back, that was with Owen in the team though..

Babel does look very quick, obviously Torres is lightning fast, with Xabi and Stevies passing abilities there is no reason why we shouldn't be as deadly as the Mancs.... my main concern would be the end product at the other end of the pitch, we need to take these chances we create..

I still think we need to push on after we score. I sensed again on Saturday we got cautious once we went ahead. We look very good when we are pinging the ball around. Not many teams can keep up.

I think the problem was gerrard "missed" 2 goals before scoring from the wonder free kick, Babel had a shot saved and Torres really should have scored when through on goal ( fortunately Kuyt forced and error) - we could have scored 5 goals but only came away with 2. These things happen but the game would have been different had we gone 2-0 ahead and not had to come back from 1-1

Summary

dont think we were cautious, just think we dont have a great conversion rate of Goals/chances

not really. I think there's a quote from Rafa or Pako about how in the 5min after a team concedes they lose their shape and we try to exploit that. we made a couple of good chances just after we scored on saturday

We look to have much better options now, and I'm convinced we will get many more points away from home this year.

Teams don't play like that against us. We had Bellamy last season and he found out how different it was to playing for Blackburn.

Excellent passing is needed as much as pace, plus forward running from midfield. If we're playing Momo / Mascherano, Xabi / Lucas and Gerrard then we need 3 forwards on the pitch in the Premiership to open up defences. Hopefully we've seen the last of a flat midfield 4 with Gerrard and Riise outwide.

Rafa's biggest problem this season will be finding the right blend with our forwards. Torres, Kuyt, Crouch, Pennant, Babel, Kewell, Leto, Voronin...too many possibilities ?
