RIP big man.

One of the players that really caught the eye on the telly. Once broke the crossbar with his shot and Kevin Keelan, the Norwich keeper, injured himself in the process.

Very, very sad news. I particularly used to enjoy watching Dougan. A great player with a great attitude. Wrote one of the few player's autobiographies worth reading as well. I remember one time he had the flu or something and Wolves had him on the sub's bench. In the very last minute of the game which stood at 0-0, they got a corner and brought him on. Dougan leapt like a salmon from the packed penalty area and headed a pearler into the top corner for the only thing he had to do all game.

I still remember the Kop singing 'Don't bend down while Dougan's around..' but there was respect. A fine tough old Centre forward he was.

RIP 'the Doog'

He always gave our players a hard time.

Not intending any disrespect, but to be honest the Kopites used to hate Dougan! On the pitch he was very aggressive and he used to like winding up the crowd with his antics.

I remember him scoring a classic goal similar to Gascoigne's against Scotland - he flicked the ball forwards over his shoulder with his heel and volleyed it into the back of the net.

Which just goes to prove what the rest of us have always suspected....Kopites are gobs***es!!! I don't know how well respected or otherwise he was when he first started out but certainly towards the tail end of his career, there was enormous respect for him.

Many aggressive players are charmers off the pitch. I met the psycho Norman Whiteside once and a more pleasant, modest chap you couldn't expect to meet. On the pitch, Derek Dougan made Wayne Rooney seem like a Sunday school teacher. Of course it all added to the entertainment, the crowd used to enjoy the aggro.
