It was called Soldier Blue with Candice Bergen and Peter Strauss.

 

Weak plot, love interest and obvious overtones of who were the real 'savages' aside, it was the action based around what happened when the army attacked a Cheyenne village at Sand Creek in 1864 that was the real shocker.

 

Rape scenes, women having their breasts sliced off, decapitations, children being mutilated, everything was fair game to this director.

 

God knows what sort of reception it got at the box office, especially in the U S and A?
