Dominus Maximus Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 He is young, very athletic, fast, strong, good finishing. But I really haven't seen him excel against a great opposition...
Dominus Maximus Posted June 17, 2007 Author Posted June 17, 2007 Although he could be the new Collymore, he could be the new Andy Cole as well..
Guest Anders Honoré Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 If he turns out to be the new Andy Cole, he will do well. A very good player he was.
Tones Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Lot of people seem to think signing players from Charlton is showing a lack of ambition. I think Bent is an excellent player. Scored plenty of goals for a crap team. Would probably score a lot more in a big team. Still only young and will improve loads with a good move.
Earl Hafler Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 He's a decent player with a good record in the Premiership but for half that price we could buy Owen who is a much better player - Bent, like Bellamy, was playing as the focal point of attack at a lesser club, playing off the last man and using his pace. He just won't get that amount of time and space playing for us. Sell Bellamy, buy Owen and use the transfer money to buy the creative forward we need. Simple
fred milne Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 If he turns out to be the new Andy Cole, he will do well. A very good player he was.He certainly achieved a damn sight more than Collymore ever did.
Stanley Leisure Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 You don't have to buy players from the g14 clubs to get results - all players start somewhere - if he signed for us, at the right price, i'd welcome him.
kick316 Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 I mentioned this in the transfer speculation thread, anyway I’m in the Middle-East and during the Champions League final, ART Sports had Phil Thompson on as a pundit. During the analysis at the end of the match, he was saying that while Liverpool was excellent in defence and midfield, it was weak upfront. On discussing who to get upfront for next season he said that we should get Darren Bent. He used Torres and Huntelaar as examples and said that while they were good players they will still need time to settle and there’s always the risk of the players not adapting to the English game. His reasoning for getting Bent echoes what others here are saying…plays for a poor team but still gets lots of goals….has pace…young…etc….etc. This certainly adds to what Anny Road has said that those within the game certainly seem to rate Bent. They probably know more about football than most of us....so if they see something special in him then there might be some truth to that.
Maldini Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 (edited) There are people within the game who have signed players based on a phonecall from "George Weah" recommending him or have turned down Andrei Shevchenko as a 19-year-old so I wouldn't count on them knowing more than us. sutty Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 (edited) He certainly achieved a damn sight more than Collymore ever did. cue loads of berks telling you that Collymore was the most talented striker they've ever seen (despite the fact that Fowler was miles better than him and stood next to him scoring thousands) Edited June 19, 2007 by sutty
