Antony Gormley's Blind Light

Yes, I am having a very mixed cultural day today

I went to see Antony Gormley's Blind Light at the Hayward Gallery on the South Bank this afternoon (for those that don't know him he did the Angel of the North and the Another Place stuff on Crosby beach) - I wasn't quite sure what I'd make of it is that kind of installation/modern sculpture stuff isn't really my thing, but I walk past one of the Event Horizon statues on my way to work every day and it got me intrigued, as did the C4 (?) documentary about him a few weeks ago

Anyway, it's well worth a visit - his stuff is really interesting, and the Blind Light piece itself is quite stunning. Very simple but incredibly disorientating. You walk inside a large glass room which is filled with fog, and immediately you lose all sense of where you are. With my glasses on I literally couldn't see anything, with them off, I could only see the walls or other people if they were about 10-12 inches away. I lost track of the outside walls and soon had no idea whatsoever where I was. By the time I had (I suppose) walked round the whole thing, I was still utterly surprised to be back at the entrance. A thoroughly odd experience.

It wasn't all great, but well worth a visit, and half price on Mondays, bargain hunters!
