Police summons for traffic offence

The dozy feck wit b/f was stopped a few months ago cos his rear break light was permanently on. The police asked him to get it fixed and then produce his details at the local station - no great shakes, but the ijit got it fixed but never went back to get it confirmed.

 

So the other day a summons arrives for him to appear in court along with witness statements etc. giving him the option of pleading guilty by writing or appearing in person.

 

The thing is as I was looking through the documents not once have they got his surname right - it even goes as far as having 2 different versions of the wrong name.

 

So my question to you wise people is can this be used to wriggle out of it and if so how? Or is it a technicality and he will be fined and pay costs?
