Checking in for flights

Yes, yes, I know....

 

Anyway, I have just managed to check in for my flight from Gatwick to Rome the morning after the Chelsea away leg. Various people have told me recently that you can't do it more than 24 hours in advance....

 

What are the rules - anyone know?

 

Annoyingly, Easyjet don't seem to want to let me check in for the flight from Rome the day before
