Paris accommodation

We need to be in Paris around 23rd July for a week. I'm wondering whether it would be better (and more affordable) to rent an apartment as opposed to a hotel.

 

Has anyone any experience of renting Parisian apartments? I've been doing some searches but nothing is really coming up - majority are aimed at an american tourists + prices etc.

 

Alternatively, any recommendations of fairly central hotels?
