Gerrard settles on Real claim

By James Pearson - Created on 7 Mar 2007

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has accepted undisclosed libel damages over a claim that he was considering a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Gerrard, who led The Reds into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, was not at London's High Court for the settlement.

His solicitor Gerrard Tyrrell had stated that the article, which appeared on London Sport Magazine's website, had caused Gerrard and his family considerable embarrassment and distress.

Tyrrell has now stated the England international was never in talks with any club regarding a move and that he is happy at Anfield.

"The true position is that Steven Gerrard has not been involved in secret talks with Real Madrid or indeed any other football club relating to a possible move," he said in a statement.

"He is more than happy at Liverpool, to whom he is contracted."

Why didn't he sue Charlie Sale of the Hate Mail, for the shyte he wrote about him, when he decided to stay instead of going to the Dodgy Russian's insurance policy??

I got that magazine (its hand distributed at underground stations in London) and was shocked to read the story. Then I laughed thinking a weekly 'sports' magazine can even get close to any kind of exclusive. The jist of it was a Real Madrid big boss was in a London hotel and so was Gerrard suspicously enough. However, this turned out to be untrue as Gerrard was in Liverpool (or Manchester or something).

Unsurprisingly, the mag issued an apology about two weeks later saying they had dubious sources. I just laughed again but was surprised that an apology was issued as rags and mags don't usually care for apologies.

The libel case would explain the rushed apology I guess. LOL.
