Stationed abroad

The last year I've been applying for three different positions inside the global group I work for.

 

The first application I sent got me in the last two for a job in our regional HQ in Singapore but unfortunately I didn't get it.

 

I then applied for a job in Australia, which I didn't get and currently I'm again in the running for an even better job than the first one in Singapore. I've advanced so far now and the feedback I get is so good that I again dare believe that I'll get this one.

 

I've wanted to try working 'far far away from home' for all my life, seing a different culture, climate... feeling the buzz about the new challenge and all that follows, so I'm really raring to go. My wife works for the same company as I do although they can't guarantee her a job as well, she's really keen on the idea, so no worries on that front.

 

Has anyone of you been stationed abroad and what suprised you the most? Both positive and negative that is....

 

Any advice on anything in relations to this subject will be highly appreciated
