Need some internet explorer help

Ok as always problems come in two's and three's just to properly piss you off.

 

Problem 1

 

First problem is the following. Log on to U tube and I get the following when trying to view videos.

 

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest flash player.

 

Questions:

1) How do I turn on JavaScript? (didn't know I had ever turned it off!) ((although I don't think this is the issue)

 

2) When trying to download Macromedia's Flash Player from here http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/triggerpages_mmcom/yflash.html

all I get is this "Network error please check your internet connection and try again"

 

Is there somewhere else I can down load this from that might actually work? Don't ever remember having this problem before?

 

Problem 2

 

Having just done a windows update I've had to uninstall it as Internet explorer 7 could not display anything at all.All previous favourites could not be displayed. Obviously I couldn't go on line and check out what it could be without uninstalling it (thank you microsoft for your great forsight )

 

Any ideas? Are these connected?

 

Is it the lack of the latest Flash which fecks up E7 ? (I'm grasping a bit here but I've no idea!)
