A question about Christ

So as not to totally derail the Gibson film thread, i'll start a new one

 

Very quickly and very basically - the Jews do not regard Jesus as the Son of God - that is akin to heresy for them. Judaism states that Jesus did not even meet the Torah requirement to prove that he was a prophet. He contradicts the Torah laws.

 

Why is he refered to as "King of the Jews" by the wise men and other Biblical characters? I was reminded of this the other day when watching the first few minutes of Life of Brian and it struck me as a tad odd, given the Jews' stance on God's offspring
