At the year's end some thoughts on the year

Christmas Eve, so first of all best wishes to you, yours and everyone for the holidays. We have our moments of disagreement on here, but in the end I think we basically want the same thing so best wishes to each and all.

I preface this by saying I've not seen a lot of Liverpool this season since the US coverage changed, so maybe you can take some of this with a pinch of salt or dismiss it altogether (as usual :)), but I thought I would offer some reflections. The calendar year has been an interesting one, no? Since January until the end of last season we were phenomenal , picked up a trophy and many of us had some hopes of pushing on for a title challenge this season. That's not materialised yet, though it may, but I'm not concerned. With all the personnel changes this summer I reckoned it would take until at least November before we started to get it together. I'm not sure we have yet got it together but we're looking a bit more like the team I thought we may. It's encouraging stuff. All in all I think I have to say it's been a good year to be a Liverpool fan. I'm proud of the team, the manager and - sorry some of you - the higher leadership. Maybe we're going into the New Year with something to be excited about, right? We're still in the European Cup and while we're further off the title pace than we'd like, we may yet be a factor or get close enough to learn something for future challenges. I dunno, I think the future's bright. Now with the real prospect of additional financial help for the boss man things look good for the time to come.

So here's to a strong end of season, a few new faces in the Jan window and a challenge. Here's to those who can't be with us right now; hope some may yet join us and that others will be with us in spirit. YNWA.

Thanks for that Scot.

As for the footy - life is good. I haven't had this little to complain about in a long time. Great manager, good squad, good form and the prospect of investment - it's a pretty merry fecking Christmas as far as I'm concerned.

Rafa's Yuletide greetings:

Wherever you are celebrating this festive season, I?d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your loyal support during 2006 and wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

Being manager of Liverpool Football Club continues to be a great honour for me and I can assure you that I, along with my staff and my players, am still driven by total determination and hunger to bring more trophies to Anfield.

Over the past twelve months we have brought two more pieces of silverware back to the club after beating West Ham in an incredible FA Cup final back in May and then lifting the Community Shield in August.

We know this club is all about winning trophies and making the fans happy and that is why we are all so pleased to have again enjoyed a successful year.

The job now is to ensure we keep moving forward and to keep improving as a team and as a squad. I remain convinced we have a better set of players now than this time twelve months ago, but we know there is still work to do to reach the level we are aiming for.

We have brought in a number of new players during the year and I am confident they will all have an important role to play in our quest for honours in the future. At the same time, a number of players left us during 2006 and I continue to wish them all the best with their new clubs.

As you will all know, there is much talk about the future of the club with reports that an investment deal is looming. I have remained focused solely on football and on my team while all the talk has been going on, but I am sure David Moores and Rick Parry will make the right decision in the best interests of the club and I look forward to being a part of what I am sure is going to be a very bright future at Liverpool.

As always, you will have a massive role to play in that future. I?ve said it before and I will say it again; you are the best fans in the world and I can promise you all that we?ll be working as hard as possible to bring you more of the success you truly deserve.

I hope you all have a great Christmas and a fantastic 2007.

Best wishes.

Rafa.

For 2007 I'm just praying that we don't offload Crouch come June and that Alves sticks to his word and doesn't end up at Barca.

The CL and another cup or two would be also nice
