rafa has stuck with him through a bad run of form

he was v unlucky not to score v charlton

have a feeling that when he does actually score and feels the cheers of the faithful that he will seriously turn a corner and up his game

reckon if he gets his game going he could be v influential for the 2nd part of the season

I caught a few Brummies games last season, and thought he played consistently better than he is now. So he has the skill obviously, just the confidence maybe lacking, like bellamy seems to be doing. Nothing new I know. :hmm:

I confidently predict that the next time we meet a top team, he will be too lightweight/invisible. Forums across the globe will call for his head. This will be followed by a series of performances against lesser opposition, where he shows the odd flash of quality. The rose-tinted brigade will state he's on the brink, he just needs time. Then we play a good team ... :(

he was below par against charlton, maybe that had something to do with him getting whacked on the noggin, but to be honest i dont think he'll cut it here.

Thought he was very good against Charlton. I just think some people will always say he's crap and not notice when he does well, some people seem to enjoy that.

I know vlad, i know. I'm sorry.

I thought he was ok against charlton but he lacks the intimidation in his play that top wingers have. He seems to enjoy the extra time and space on the ball in Europe so he may end up being important there (if he gets a chance when Momo gets back).

I also think we're still inept at giving our wingers the ball at the right moments. Speedy and Pennant don't receive the ball in enough space and often can't isolate the full back. It was less of an issue last year with Kewell and Gerrard but they don't take players on as much as Pennant or Gonzalez

I'd love for him to come good but I don't think he'll be anything other than average.

I think he is an average player who happens to play out wide. Whenever a wide player comes on the scene in England they are always overhyped. Just look at the likes of Duff, SWP, Lennon and Downing as examples. None of them have exactly been consistant yet are talked about like they are the next great winger waiting to happen. Pennant couldn't make it in an @rsenal set up that gives youngsters a chance. Even at Brum he was very inconsistant.

I'm no fan of Pennant and I doubt he'll make it with us, but to be fair his time to break through at arsenal happened at a time arsenal had their best team since the 30's, if not their entire history and it would have been difficult for any player to break into it at that time.

Unless you're english.

Unless you're english.

Ashley Cole did okay. Can't think of any English prospects there who left and were brilliant elsewhere. Upson? Bentley?

More likely that there are few good English prospects.

I'm not so sure that Pennant will really make it with us. I hope I'm wrong, but I think he will be the kind of player who will look great in flashes but will never quite have the application to impose himself over the longer term.

Assuming DIC investment comes to fruition, I'd imagine we'd be looking at someone to come in who can make a greater impact.
