Dominus Maximus Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Seeing both here and other places that people slate Agger by his performance last night. Honestly, the man played some good games, still young. Smashes his hand and gets injured. Gets replaced by Sami, who honestly plays some poor games, and yesterday Agger was back. Yes his distribution was poor, and yes we've come to expect more from him, but he was out for a month and then is thrown out in a tough away game for a side, according to Alonso that right now has a pessimistic tone in the dressing room. SkySports gave Agger an eight, and he is statistically our best player, so I don't see why he should be dropped. I will get slated for saying this, but the Premiership is far far far away, and there is no future in Sami. Next year it will be Agger and Carragher, so why wait with giving Agger the spot to keep? And yes I am biased...
Guest Kev Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Agger got caught a couple of times out of position/mis timed the ball, but in general I thought he did well. He has to stay in the side to get used to playing with Carra/Reina and Co.
eskton Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Think its fair to say he didn't have a good game yesterday. But we still kept a clean sheet, sum might say, he's done his job then. Its our forward play thats more worrying at the mo
Guest BrianF Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 No problems with Agger after yesterday. A few of them looked a bit jaded, probably from having to travel all over Europe in midweek to play meaningless internationals.
Dominus Maximus Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 He nearly put one in the top bin. Awesome shot, frustrated with his team, he just travelled up the field him self and blasted it... Love that.. .
smithdown Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Awesome shot, frustrated with his team, he just travelled up the field him self and blasted it... Love that.. . Don't think it was frustration, I reckon he'll look to have a pop like that in every game if he gets into that position - like Sami (eventually) did against Reading.
D.Boon Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 The league has gone, give him a full run to get ready for next seasons title shot. Looked decent in the air yesterday too
Guest Kev Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 The league has gone, give him a full run to get ready for next seasons title shot. Looked decent in the air yesterday too We need far better players than we have at the moment, we need to spend a lot more money than ever.
Dominus Maximus Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 We need far better players than we have at the moment, we need to spend a lot more money than ever. But where? A cracking striker, cracking winger? Does the defence need anything new? Sell Reina for Villa and get a taller keeper???
Guest Kev Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 But where? A cracking striker, cracking winger? Does the defence need anything new? Sell Reina for Villa and get a taller keeper??? The only ones I'd keep for sure are Reina, Carra, Agger, Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko, Kuyt.
_00_deathscar Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 I'd add Riise, Finnan and Kewell to that list too. And I very much doubt we'll flog Bellamy, Pennant and Gonzalez, regardless of how they perform, after just one year.
Cooldude Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 The only ones I'd keep for sure are Reina, Carra, Agger, Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko, Kuyt. Kev, if you're manager I'm not sure we'd have enough players to field an eleven

Kev, if you're manager I'm not sure we'd have enough players to field an eleven I'd bring back Traore, Cisse and Emile. Promote Peltier from the reserves, and probably give Garcia a 2nd chance

Guest Kev Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Cola Cola League here we come! Give me a chance, the fixtures haven't even come out yet
Guest BrianF Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 The only ones I'd keep for sure are Reina, Carra, Agger, Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko, Kuyt. To be fair, there's not many teams about who have 7 top class players like those in their side. We don't need much, just a bit of belief and a player that runs at the opposition and provides a bit of spark.
Cooldude Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Give me a chance, the fixtures haven't even come out yet Forget it, if you're gonna look at the fixture list and tick the games you're gonna win, you ain't gonna tick too many
_00_deathscar Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Give me a chance, the fixtures haven't even come out yet You're right. Once they do, we can start chanting "CONFERENCE! HERE WE COME!"
Guest Kev Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Forget it, if you're gonna look at the fixture list and tick the games you're gonna win, you ain't gonna tick too many My powers of persuasion, my ability to get the best out of players and my tactical know how would ensure No.19
Guest ziggystardust Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 (edited) i thought agger was excellent again yesterday, got caught out once. Boro had once single opportunity. Consider this we have lost one game in which agger has started this season. In both games against chelsea he player superb stiffling schevchenko and drogba in the main apart from the odd flashes of acceptable brilliance from the two. He distributes brilliantly is skillful enough to play in midfield and is never flustered. Anyone remember his excellent goal line clearance against chelsea. He is by far and away our best defender, it seems only him, alonso, kuty and carra are trying at the moment. Edited November 19, 2006 by ziggystardust

And yes I am biased... basically no difference if you play agger or hyypia. Sami was not the reason you lost against Arsenal or your poor results, he has merely been made scapegoat. It is your midfield that is letting you down, changing agger for hyypia or vice versa is like changing the windshield wiper when your engine is destroyed, useless and cosmetic at best.

AE Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 I don't think we've been relegated 18 times... He's thinking long term, 19th time winning divison 1
