Computer stuff: refilling printer cartridges

Hi all, wonder if any of you can help this newbie with an irksome printer-related problem. I have a Lexmark X1190 printer and yesterday tried refilling the colour (27) cartridge, but the printer wouldn't recognise it and printed blank instead of colour. On the instruction sheet for the inkjet-refill inks it only mentions needing a cartridge resetter for Epsom printers (and if you look on ebay all the chip/cartridge resetters you see are likewise for Epsoms). What's also a little baffling is that with my old printer (also Lexmark - Z11 I think) I managed to refill the colour cartridge a couple of times but then had the same problem of the printer not recognising it. Any ideas?
