Good point, but in the space time contiuum, fate of nations etc, who would be in charge

Too right!!! Divide Essien's fee by 2 or 3 and it would be about right and closer to 3 I'd say. I'd rather have Momo.

He's a good player is Essien, but Momo was bought because he was available, rather than persued

I dont think Rafa would last 2 minutes with a Chairman like that. Rafa has his mind set on the value of that player and will not pay a stupid amount extra.

An example is the recent dealings for Alves. If Rafa thought he was worth £12 million then im sure the board would have paid the extra however Rafa was willing to go over his initial value of £8 million but not as much as £12 million and therefore refused to do business.

What a steaming pile of b******s.

Rafa would geg in like any right minded coach.

For any moaning I may do about Liverpool FCs inability to maximise on their capital, the fact that Rafa or anyone else has to work smarter and harder is probably a blessing.

It worked for Shankly and Paisley. Rafa didn't do too badly at Valencia in the face of Madrid and Barca either. Or here for that matter.

Don't quite see what you're getting at as you seem to be arguing against the poster that you quoted and then making a similar point.

Not at all Spike.

The poster implied that Rafa has some sort of moral judgement that stops him paying whatever.

The way I see it, Rafa is realistic and pragmatic, working with the confines of the budget available to him. Given a free hand I'd imagine he'd identity who and what he wanted and providing he was OK with the player, the person and their ambition he'd pay whatever it took.

Does that make it clearer now Spike?

Know what you mean, I suppose it kind of focusses the mind.

Rafa is basically a minge, in a good way of course.

Ah, I see now - but all the same you'd prefer someone to work and think about their signings than sIgNBiGnAMes. Too much money makes you lazy kind of thing.

Being a fan I'd love to see the best footballer in every position at Anfield, and the 2nd best behind them. It rarely works out though, the best teams are just that - teams.

Usually the best teams have been worked on and moulded by the coach and NOT bought. Us from the 60's to 1990, the mancs in the mid/late 90's, Arsenal from 1998 to 2004 etc. OK all could and did go and splash a few bob every now and then but the core and the basis was of the coach, the team better than their constituent parts may have indicated.

Souness, Evans (despite what Robbie wrote) and Ged all had buckets of money but didn't produce a title winning side, Slur Anal's hit a brick wall since he went Billy Big time with his £20million + signings and Wengers big deals haven't hit the heights that his well spotted and cutely executed transfers did.

Rafa's had a few bob and now we have a very good squad, if he'd had £300 million would the same care and attention to detail have gone into the set up and what would the longer term implications be?
