there was a sequence which lead up to talking about Souness and the volley he scored v Utd at the Anny rd end in about '78/79.

Anyway they showed footage, just a few seconds of Souey from an earlier season in a Boro shirt and it looked like he was standing over a Liverpool No.8 who was lying on the ground (Couldn't see who - Jimmy Case?), slowing shaking his clenched fist in his face

anyone able to enlighten me further on the incident at all?

I missed between 10 and 50 but does anyone know if Gerrards rocket made the list? It was great that JAR freekick got to number 2!!

Only to confirm that it was Jimmy Case on the ground.

I was at the game but I can't remember what specifically caused the obvious difference of opinion

I remember that. I was in the Kop so I couldn't see it close up, but I always remember Jimmy lying on the floor gesturing with his arms for Souey to hit him.

Mental, the pair of them.

I was there. They both went for the ball but Case left his foot in and Souey threatened him. I remember thinking at the time we should buy Souness on the spot: if you could pick a fight with Jimmy you had the character we needed.

I remember that incident. I saw the match on telly, must have been 1977 or thereabouts cause Souness joined us in January 1978, didn't he? The other incident that I still remember from that particular match was the bionic carrot's (Fairclough) cracking opening goal. We went on to win 2-0.

Was that the cup match?

Fairclough ran square across the box and lashed it in?

I remember that day - everton were at home to derby as well on the same day, over 100,000 at the match on both sides of the park - it was feckin great.
