  1. I am over it don't worry 20 mil signings like Keane are why we continue to lack the punch to really challenge for the League
  2. We've been haggling over 3 million because Barry is not worth the 18mil they are asking, everyone knows it, so has nothing to do what we can and cant afford only what we are prepared to pay for the player. My comment was that why play 20 mil for a good player when you can pay 25mil for a great one, seems like flase economy to me. Its the same as when you buy shoes you dont get cheapies that will only last a year you buy quality which will perform for many years. Ive never spoken to Keane or Berbatov so I cannot vouch for their respective attitudes. But for mine Berbatov looked frustrated last season, he was surrounded by talent that was not at his level and it showed. Anyway both players played 36 games last season, both scored 15 goals with Berbatov having 11 scoring assists to 7 for Keane. I watched heaps of Spurs games last season and Berbatov was unquestionable the best player on the pitch for the majority of the games I watched. I think we would thrive in a situation where he was surrounded by players that are as good as he is.
  3. Or Berbatov, I think he and Torres would be a lethal combo and it would appear Tottenham may be willing to part with him. Too me it is madness to pay 20mil for Keane if we can obtain the likes of Berbatov or Villa for 25-30 mil. If we do sign Keane and then opt to play him wide we certainly arent giving him the best chance of success at the club. If we do use him in a relief role for Torres he is not going to get the game time he surely wants and I dont feel that it is his best position anyway. I want to know who this other player is?
  4. I agree they are very different players, but one has been the world player of the year the other an occasional international. From what Soccernet are now saying 19.5 mil to AC Milan was the final deal rather than to Man City as Soccernet was quoting earlier. I would much prefer to keep Xabi and use the money from our sales to bring in a player of Ronaldhino's stature, for mine it addresses a more significant weakness in our first team and given he has had one poor season which was blighted by injuries I think he was worth the risk. He is after all only 28 and two years ago was one of the top 3 players in the game. That talent doesnt disappear over night a contract with performance claueses would have been the answer but perhaps Ronnie wouldnt have been interested in such a deal anyway.
  5. Ronaldhino to Man City for 21-25mil and we are looking at Barry for 17-18mil I like Barry but we are overpaying and from what Ive read we may not get him at all now anyway.
  6. Football clubs develope talent for the good of their own club first and foremost with the added benefit of transfer fees for the players who really develope into the calibre of talent a top team in the highest or a higher league are looking for. Ask the fans from the low level clubs, they know they wont be able to hold onto the gun kid thats coming through but at the same time they know they will get a decent chunk of change for him which will ultimately help the club, on the pitch or off. So it makes the loss manageable for the club I think perhaps you need to understand the meaning of slavery before you refer to footballers as pseudo slaves. It is borderline offensive to refer to a person earning 10mil a year as a slave, it couldnt be further from the truth given the contracts that these players have.
  7. I would have to go Insua, he has the best chance of all the listed players of seeing some reasonable game time this season given we can expect at least one period of injury for Aurelio.
  8. Im trying to explain that players like it or not are an asset that belongs to the club, they generate revenue and the loss of that asset/revenue has to be compensated for in some way. I wont have to because the system will likely never change, there is no more fair way to go about the business of transfers than the current system regardless of its flaws
  9. Football is a business mate, think of it this way, low level clubs spend big money investing in young players and developing them through football acadamy programs. Now for the millions of dollars clubs spend devloping young players they expect(rightly) to receive some compensation when one of their players(assets) are lost. If players could move without transfer fees the small clubs would have no choice but to shut down all developement programs because it would not make business sense to develope players when they knew they would get nothing for them when the time came for the big transfer of their young star. Merchandising income alone is enough reason for a team to want a transfer fee. it comes down to the bottom line at the end of the day and what your proposing is not realistic. I agree that transfer fees are out of control but abolishing them all together is not the answer. Blatter and Ronaldo's comments only show how out of touch with the reality these two are, imagine a person earning 10mil a year, more in a week than most people make in a year, more in a year than most will make in a lifetime calling himself a slave. I wouldnt have Ronaldo on my team for free, he has just won the League and CL double but he wants to leave....? Does he think Real will win more cups than Man U? I think he wants to be the player who broke Zidanes transfer record so he can sit back and think "wow look at what im worth" He obviously loves his name in the papers as well so he can get a daily ego boost. The Media need to start telling it like it is, he is a prat and if I was his teamate he would know all about it and how eager the rest of the team is to see him go.
  10. I like Fabio as a squad player, he is a good passer and can play a couple of positions, he has two useful feet and can deliver from wide positions as well as from free kicks. He has also been with the squad for long enough to come into the 1st team and deliver the goods straight away. When he gets consistent games he is a very effective player, if he could have an injury free season(unlikely)he could be our best option at LB. His form before he did the achilles injury(i think) a while back was excellent unfortunately he has not returned to that level since but we all know he has it in him with abit of luck he could recapture that form and shine on the left of midfield or at LB.
  11. I cant see many other formations that use our three best players(Torres,Gerrard and Masch) more effectively and the addition of a second striker certainly upsets this balance for mine. I can only see us playing two strikers if we play only one holding midfielder and Stevie in behind two strikers otherwise our best player is playing out of position and our number one target over the summer seems to have nowhere to play. At a stretch you could put Barry on the left wing but he is lacking the speed to be any real danger of getting in behind. That said we saw Hargreaves have some good games for Man U on the wing and he and Barry are fairly simmilar players so it could work and could also explain our lack of advances toward wide midfielders thus far. Maybe?? -----Reina----- -Degen-Agger-Carra-Dossena- -----Masch----- -Babel--Stevie--Barry- ---Torres--Keane---
  12. Regardless of how many games he played for us he always gave 100% on the field, and never rubbished the club the manager or any of the other players, least not that I saw anyway. I'll remember Harry for his game against Chelsea in the CL Semis, he carved them up on the flank and gave the back four trouble all day, he was one of the main reasons we won that game and went on to the CL final.
  13. Kewell was a good servent to the club when he was fit and should not be rubbished for taking the offer of first team football at Galatassaray. Given Harry was not even the second choice on the left side by seasons end why would he except a pay when you play contract for far less than what Gala' where offering when there was a good chance he wouldnt play anything but early round cup games and the odd away game against one of the promoted teams. Seems a common sense decision for both sides imo For me this does say alot about Harry as a man, he is still fueled with the competitive desire to play first team football every weekend an opportunity which is certainly not on offer at Liverpool. Amazing how some of our fans turn so quickly against former players
  14. Good luck to Peter and thanks for his hard work for the club I have never been a big fan of Peter, I always thought he made us too one dimensional in our build up play and given our lack of quality in delvery from the wide positions he was often an irrelevence to opposition defences. A good player but not exceptional in any area even in the air/set peice department where he should have been a dominant force. Cannot doubt he gave 100% everytime he stepped on the pitch for us tho
  15. Does anyone else think we are not chasing the right players in the TM atm, i havent seen one concrete article about us bidding on a top quality winger, I mean there is speculation of course, but I dont see the effort being made to address our biggest weakness which to me is our wide positions. I dont think we are as far away from contention as the media make us out to be maybe only one or two players if we sold Crouch and a couple of others and successfully signed a Silva/Quaresma type player and retained much of the rest of the squad then I think we are a big chance but atm I dont see us making any effort to address this. Is Rafa is working on a completely new formation for next season?? I'd be surprised, we worked very well with the Torres and Stevie upfront so why change and the pursuit of Barry only seems to point in the direction of our continuing use of two holding midfielders. I am warming to Barry more and more, but 17 million is ridiculous and Villa have turned that down anyway. I know Rafa is the man but i'm troubled alittle by our direction in the transfer market atm
  16. Those that only remember the OG v Chelsea are the ones who only started watching this season, otherwise they would have alittle more respect for John and the service he gave to LFC. Imagine people calling someone a c**t, someone they have never met, and never will because he made a mistake in one game. I suppose your perfect and never make any mistakes, grow up and understand how the real world works...sometimes s*** happens, its beyond anyones control. Do you think that John doesnt regret scoring the OG, make no mistake it would burn him more than any of you no matter how long you have been a fan. He had to face his teammates in the locker room after the game and none of them would of acted the way some of you are acting, i bet you cheered your a*** off tho when he scored in the CL v Chelsea a couple of years back. Every pro player has scored an OG at some point, its the worst feeling in pro football so give it a rest and farewell a man who gave great service to LFC and deserves our respect. Thanks John Good Luck in your future endeavours

    Dirk Kuyt

Great goal tonight for Kuyt, shows how effective a finisher he is when the service is good
  18. Loved the goal versus Arsenal in the 2nd leg of the CL at Anfield, just about made me drop my bundle, just as Theo Walcots goal minutes later nearly made me cry followed by Stevies pen which caused minor heart failure, damn that was a great game.
  19. You would have to agree that the price for players has risen in the last few years, a player who was 12mil a few years ago would go for 14 or 15 in todays market. So comparisons can really only go so far. The telling stat of all the info you put up is the 9 players over the 10 mil mark vs our 4 I agree that not every player has to be a 20 mil signing, its just that all the absolutely best players in the world go for 20 mil plus now in 2008 and the fans want to see the club recruit world class players. I dont disagree that cheaper or even free players can be just as effective. In the end it comes down to the player filling the role the manager requires.
  20. Have to agree, Skrtel is a great player and will one day take Carras place but not yet. While not having the speed of MS, Jamie has all the smarts and experiance and is still nimble enough to do a very good job. I thought he was solid as a rock last season. JBTW - Not a good idea to circulate rumours of that nature, most of us can see (or hope at least) that this is a joke but it only takes one person to beleive it and there is a problem. Drugs and sport dont mix and the stigma is something that can destroy a players career whether they are guilty or not so be careful what you say.
  21. These are the scary concepts we as fans now have to consider with our current ownership situation. I think we would have to get to a pretty bad financial state before Torres would go in the window tho. I can see why Rafa is considering moving out Xabi, I would prefer him to stay myself, but he clearly beleives that Masch Barry Lucas and Plessiss can carry the load. I think we would all agree that Lucas and Plessiss are going to continue to improve and Barry, while not as classy as Xabi is still a very effective player so I am more and more coming to terms with the idea that he wont be at Anfield next season. Also if his sale allows us to sign a top notch winger I think overall out 1st team will be better.
  22. Looks a bit lean in the midfield backup department for mine, I suppose Kuyt is interchangeable I dont see us playing a 4-3-3 next year to be honest, I think the formation we are using at the moment works really well and encourages our two best players to work together, which they have shown works to great affect. I would be happy to see us continue with our current formation and just improve the wide positions with the addition of a Quaresma type player and Babel on the other wing I think we would still be just as potent a scoring force as if we played 3 up front. For mine the 1st team will look something like this Pepe Arbeloa--Carra---Agger--Dossena Masch---Barry Quaresma--Gerrard--Babel Torres It just comes down to who we can make a play at and if we have enough in the kitty to make it happen. Quaresma is a 20+mil proposition so we may have to settle for someone alittle cheaper but hey fingers crossed.
  23. Absolutely spot on, couldn't have said it any better myself
  24. Your absolutely right, why do some of you continue to quibble over spelling errors and protocols, most of you have made your thoughts quite clear but you seem to be unable to move on to the crux of the problem and the real reason why this post was made in the first place. If you have so many significant questions and concerns then go to a SoS meeting and raise your concerns. Its easy to sit at a computer and pick at peoples communication skills and hide behind the guise of providing constructive criticism. Its another thing to actually go to meetings and physically take a stand and contribute to the cause. I use to be involved with a political party here in Australia, and quibbling over protocols and meaningless matters is exactly what drove me away from politics alltogether. Members spent all their time worrying about such minor matters that in the end we never actually accomplished anything. And therefore missed our chance to make a meaningfull impact on society. In ten years time when H&G have ruined the club you guys can sit back comfortable in the knowledge that you ridiculed the organisation who was trying to stop the rot. Maybe if some of you put as much effort into assisting SoS in its objectives as you do in tearing downs its motives and communications we would be half way to solving the problem already.Coming onto this forum and others i'm sure and picking at SoS communications and questionsing their intent is that the limit of your commitment to getting LFC back to where we all want it to be Will you be happy with your contribution to the cause?
  25. Downing has games where he is brilliant and then he goes absent for the next 3 games. He is still young tho so there is still time for further developement. No disrespect to Stuart Downing he is a great player but I think we need to be alittle more ambitious with our transfers targets $$$ determine it tho at the end of the day. I think Boro would want far more than what he is really worth. 5-6 mil max for mine
