Funnily enough I saw Emlyn play one of his first games for Blackpool but lived in Banbury at that time.I'd been watching the local team play Port Vale res. Jackie Mudie (old Blackpool player) was involved with Port Vale and I met him in the clubrooms afterwards. I had no idea that Shanks was already after Hughes but commented to Mudie that I'd seen this young lad Hughes and was really impressed. He agreed and said he wont be at Blackpool much longer. I think it must have been depressing to listen to the crowd acclaiming the overweight "god" riding Roy Evans around the training ground and the diligent Owen training hard, playing hard but being criticised all the time because he wanted to play for England(a field Robbie could never establish himself in) probably because of the same lack of commitment he showed to Liverpool in the spice boys era. Both talents have been wasted in different ways although we are very fortunate to have produced both. It seems strange that some of our most fervent and committed players have been imported i.e Kenny,Billy Liddell and Ian St.John -excluding Carra and Tommy Smith.

But both scoring records for liverpool are ancient history at present. Cisse 's record in France is excellent. He should be allowed to start at least five games with a regular partner. That's nothing more than Crouch and Morientes have had.
