The "unproven in our league" argument does not wash with me. Look at our now perceived best 11: Reina Arbeloa Carra Agger Dossena Mascherano Xabi Kuyt Gerrard Keane Torres 2 from our own ranks and one "proven premiership" signing. Proven in our league? I guess that is something which belongs in the past, or with teams having poorer quality scouting networks than our own.

I quite agree with you. Selling him would be a big mistake. The "hasn't been on top form for 2 seasons" argument is b******s imo. Sadly quite a few fans use his fantastic first season as the standard they judge him by, disregarding that he has played a different role since then - holding midfield. (except now the last season when we have Mascher.) He was very good last season before his injury, and also was getting into the groove at the end of it. I also don't subscribe to the popular opinion that he has been very inconsistent and poor the last 2 seasons in the holding midfielder role. In fact, he has been doing all the stuff Hamann was lauded for and a lot more.
